Wanted To Buy / Re: VIN and PAINT plate reproductions
« Last post by Jack the Knife on Today at 18:52:39 »
I'm presently in contact with Mehmet, seems he can fix my problem for both plates but he needs the car's data card, which I don't have yet.
Any clues on how to get one quickly?
Thanks again for any help, when all set my next step will be to take a full membership of the Pagoda SL group! :)

You can email the classic center at classiccenter@mbusa.com... although I'm noticing you're in Quebec. It might be best for you to go to your local Mercedes dealer and ask. The cost should be something around $150-$200 CAD.

See my earlier reply, no 2, something to check and rule out (or not). It's probably something simple and I doubt it's the head gasket because then I would expect compression to be more uneven between the cylinders. Have you checked that the cylinder head bolts are torqued to specification?

Yes, Mehmet's plate is in my car. Couldn't have had a better experience.

I put the pump together and tested it.

Runs very quiet, pumps fuel like hell, I think more than 1 liter per 15 seconds.

No fuel is dripping from the drain nipple when the pump is running

However

When the pump stops or when I was priming it before start - there was fuel dripping form the drain nipple.

What did I do wrong? Is it the question of the oring on the shaft not fully sealing the bellows seal (I have a new bellows seal)? I did use 5x1,25mm oring, so slightly oversized.

Or is it something else?

Kent, what is wrong with your WRD?
Since you have a 1970 280sl, that thermostat in Rodd's post is not for your car.

Usually issues can be resolved with:
New thermostat
New air filter
Shims under the WRD

You can search "warm running device" to find lots of threads about troubleshooting

Autohausaz has the best price for the thermostat.

Hi Rodd,

Thanks for the reply.  I did not see that.  Unfortunately, it appears that these have all been sold.

Dear Jack

Many thanks for the review and positive feedback.  Your harness was a very rare example of a car with a good electrical life.  It had some previous work, but done by professionals with care. I didn’t find cuts or splices anywhere and all the Bakelite's connectors where in impressive good shape.

That shows the outstanding build quality of a Mercedes and the longstanding of its components if always treated with care and knowledge.

I found,  only, the known problems in the main feed T30 line with its cotton/resin insulation, with minimal deterioration on your case, and of course the totally damaged T50 starter signaling wire with its fully softened external insolation jackets

I did my best quality and conscious work to bring to your car a top wiring harness that will perform without strange gremlins for many many years.

Best regards
Eng.Leonardo Peterssen

Wanted To Buy / Early Cold Start Valve Ponton W128
« Last post by Pawel66 on Today at 10:32:27 »
I am looking for early type of Cold Start Valve for Ponton W128. Or at least the coil part (with the connector).

Mine is damaged beyond repair - the bakelite connector part is broken off, causing fuel leak.

Update:
Still waiting for the gasket and Leakdown tester. Did. A quick compression test again today. All the values have dropped down to 95( first 3 cylinder)-100 psi.
Engine runs but not very well now

Would this be indicative of a head gasket failing or something else?

Wanted To Buy / Long Fuel Pump Inlet Fitting, Early Style Ponton
« Last post by Pawel66 on Today at 07:47:12 »
If anyone has the inlet fitting for the long fuel pump that looks like the one on the picture - I would kindly request, I would buy it.

This is for Ponton 220SE.

The fitting looks like the one on the picture (we have outlet fitting on the picture, I did not have a picture of the correct inlet fitting). It has threads on both ends - for the pump housing and for the hose. Plastic screen goes into the housing part.

This part is not in the catalogues as a separate part.

What I currently have is the later version, used in Pagoda, with thread to the housing and simple hose fitting, which is not correct for the Ponton.
