Drive train, fuel, suspension, steering & brakes / Re: Injectors

Mike,

The old injectors have been tested and double checked..   all but 1 didn't meet specs.  The "early" injectors (R1) are quite hard to find and almost twice the cost (around $200) so we've decided to order a complete set of the new (or R2) injectors as being the best course of action.  The new set will be tested before they're installed.  I've read through most of the posts here and it "looks like" there have been some failed "R2" injectors but that they are the replacement Bosch recommends..   I've not found any descriptions of "what's different" but given that the change occurred at the same time the 250 was introduced as well as "smog" requirements my only guess is that they may atomize better...  maybe they add a bit more fuel for the larger displacemnt - dunno..  testing will tell.

If ONE R1 injector didn't meet specs, shouldn't be that hard to find ONE good used one? But probably a good idea to have the full set of six either all R1 or all R2 and all working properly.

Mauro from Messina, Sicily, bought a full set of the newer ones and most were no good. He returned them...I think you could find his posts on the matter.

A couple of thoughts for you.

I just don't see how your multi-meter isn't giving you something to work with Ohm wise.

Even though you don't have horns, its possible that you still have the wireing where it attached to the horns. You could run the same check you ran to confirm the cigarette lighter on those wires and see if you have power. Seems like you are aware of the danger working with live voltage and being very careful.

I do believe that with ignition in position 2 you should get power at fuse 2. Maybe BobH or someone else can confirm. I think earlier someone may have mentioned that your wiring in the ignition switch may not be working correctly. Under normal conditions, I'm sure the car does not have to be running to get power to fuse 2 with key in position 2.  You were wise not to start the car.

If you got power on the relay connector pin that corresponds with terminal 56b on the relay you are making progress. You should get power there from fuse 2. On my car, the connector plug for the ww motor actually has numbers next to the female pins. I get power at pin 4 (the number on the connector - not the motor) directly from fuse 2 when ignition is on.

The little wire that was wrapped up may be part of the disabled "flash to pass" feature. In an undisturbed car that wire was white with red and blue tracers. There are many posts on that which you can find with a search. But I would leave that rabbit hole for later.

I really think you need to find an Ohm meter that works for you. I only resorted to testing with voltage as a last resort and I was really distracted worrying about the consequences.

I live in Southern Connecticut and have a 1971 SL.  This winter I had the intake manifold and value cover pulled and drove them up to Gernold (SL Tech) in Arundle Maine to have them vapor blasted. I finally got to meet Gernold and what a treat to see his operation.  And best of all the parts look fantastic! I only wish he lived around the corner from me!

Anyway, after reinstalling the manifold back in Connecticut the mechanic who did the work can not get the car to run correctly.  Idle all screwed up and running very rich!  Instead of the idle dropping down to 850 rpms when it reaches operating temperature it actually steps up to 1,750!  I've lost confidence in these guys and I'm now trying to find a real expert who can get this car running correctly.

Any referrals in the Southern Connecticut area would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Do we need to paint the bolts of the doors -as shown in the attached pictures?

Hi all, I have received my plugs back from the 3D printers and they turned out to be a pain in the bum to get right with the colour texture and shape, but they did a great job in the end. If there was enough interest they could print off 100 at a unit price of £7 Plus P/P. Seems dear but they have to hand finish them.

Those look nice!

Granted, I’ve never dealt with a 3D printer shop but I’d think you’d be able to get the files from them? If so, any chance posting them in the tech manual 3D printed parts section? Might be easier to just have them printed locally rather than shipping around.

Try batterycentralmall.com.  They have repro 24 series batteries for MB and other European cars from the 50's and 60's. I've had one in my 65 230Sl for 4 years and it's been great.

General Discussion / Re: Car shipping in Florida
« Last post by Ueenande on Today at 12:55:55 »
Hey! I recently faced a similar situation when I bought a new Audi S8 and was worried about the shipping. I found that many companies don't offer single-car shipping, which can be a hassle.

A friend recommended fast car shipping service and it saved me a lot of trouble. They specialize in transporting one car at a time and were really reliable. They operate in the Sarasota/Tampa area, so they might be perfect for your 230SL. The whole process was smooth and stress-free, which was great because I had so many other things to handle and couldn't do it myself.

Hope this helps! Good luck with your car shipping!

Dear friends

I am getting there. What appeared to be impossible is now close to its final completion.

The w109-4.5 chopped harness has become the pristine beauty shown on pictures attached.

The customer is more than happy with the outcome.

1. All relays changed to cubed style pin arrangement
2. Fully functional emission control
System
3. Intermittent wipers rare option added with original Mercedes Impulsegeber relay
4. Matching 3 speed steering wheel switch added
