You all are correct, if it has the "oel" cap it is the older style with a separate oil reservoir.

So I found the dipstick, took it out and of course there was plenty of oil overflowing. Waited for it to clear, put it back in.
Started engine to see if oil level increase up to breather cap, nothing yet. The oil that came out seems like pretty clean engine oil, no fuel I can see but maybe the very slightest odor.

Pump ID plate shows model PES 6KI 70A120 R18 which confirms older style I believe. The quantity of oil in the photo is what came out from about 10 minutes engine run time at idle plus what drained out once I located the dipstick.

Looks like the pump is going to need some attention....
Thank you everyone! You Pagoda guys are the best. My BAT dream car has left me with a hangover on its first day, but we'll get it sorted. Now after two days I have a sense of where this headed.

This car should have a dip stick on the IP. It's not normal for oil to be coming out of the fill port so I'd say the seals are leaking inside of the pump. Oil level should NOT increase or you have problems.

Mercedes did not make and does not make head gaskets. Elring was/is an original equipment supplier. Elring aftermarket head gaskets are released by Mercedes Benz and should be fine.

Where exactly is the hardtop foam supposed to go???  We used 1/4" adhesive backed industrial black sponge rubber and cut it to fit into the oval recesses and nowhere else... (since the original black foam had desintigrated) we have no idea what all should be getting a foam treatment.. Are there any illustrations showing where the foam is to be applied??

Electrical and Instruments / Re: Does anyone know where to get this switch?

I finally received these switches, from Mercteil via Latvia, after canceling an order through a supplier that was sourcing through Iran.  Worth the wait, they are exactly correct, down to the stamped "8059" part number and "West Germany" molded into the plastic.
