Well I drove the pacific hwy in a ford, didn't quite have the same impact in the photoss I'd say!

Here's a pic of someone who forgot to put his pagoda away for the winter.I didn't think people would leave these out in the weather like that, let alone a less than secure position I was driving down a busy road your side of the world and my wife yelled there's your car. The pagoda tragic that I am, I turned around in minus 20 and pulled up and took a photo. hmm.

IT's 332 Dark Blue, It tends to look dark blue although black at times depending on the lighting

Not uncommon. It takes discipline to look around the viewfinder as if you are looking at the picture. Then you see self reflections, trees growing out of people's heads, unwanted visitors, etc.

Who is that guy right above the star? Happens to all of us.

Also, we do our best as amateurs with the conditions we have to work with. And, your picture is a very nice one, but you can see where the angle of the professional one of the 190 SL above gets rid of the self reflection and also shows the beauty of the dashboard.

Likewise, there is nothing like a professional setting to produce spectacular results. Light, reflection, background, etc., all in full control of the photographer. And this was the best of an 8 hour shoot! Not my car, beautiful pictures.

Rob and John,
thanks for posting these beautiful pictures.
But with the reminder that "de gustibus non est disputandum", I would like to state my preference for Rob's picture. I do like very much the reflection of the man on the trunk, especially since one cannot really see that he is holding a camera - perhaps he just shades his eyes to get a better look? To me he looks like a transfixed viewer ogling a beautiful subject.
The b/w 190SL picture I like too because it shows the essence of the car.
But I do not care much for the last of the three "professional" 190SL pix, it looks way too much like a shot of a model car and not a real one.
Some like to look at "botox beautified" faces and others prefer a Dorothy Lange face of the depression area.
As I said, "there's no accounting for taste".

Have I got a solution for you... Photoshop. Verb: to photoshop. Photoshopped. Methinks the professional shot also has liberal application of said tool, hence the sort of "airbrushed feel" to it. Bit like a Playboy model (disclaimer: I only read that magazine for the articles too). I too prefer lifelike...

Hi John

You seem to know your way round a camera . A lot of nice pics on your flickr site.

Me I need to get my new eyeglass prescription. I subscribe to the method of taking a mass number of digital pcs, deleting most and keep the best .

I recall seeing a similar pic on one of these sites some time ago. I went up my daughter balcony a week or so ago while my car was in the driveway and thought , that would be an interesting pic

I must say the thought of taking pics with semi hidden reflections in is looking rather interesting and challenging

While I posted the professional pictures of the blue 190 SL for observation, I too, prefer more realistic shots. The blue pics have a surreal quality to them, as has been described in the posts following it, and it's a bit more difficult to "feel" the car. I'm sure Michael's work on our Pagoda book will offer more than an abundance of the type of pictures we tend to enjoy.

Here's an undoctored, natural picture of my '64 356C. Michael would critique that I lost the colors in the sky, and he would be right!
