Spotted on Saturday 10.16.10 at about 10:30AM, driving through Stanley Park, crossing the Lion's Gate bridge in Vancouver, BC -- what looked like a cream-colored 230sl, top down -- beautiful! I was in a taxi and couldn't quite catch you in traffic.

Also spotted, a 1970-71 280 in a Tommy Hilfiger ad in the lasted edition of Esquire magazine. The car appears alongside a '72-ish BMW 2002.

That first photo looks like it could have been used in a magazine ad or sales brochure.  Looks very nice!

Bob,

Yes, I agree with Jim & Hauser,
the first picture should be submitted for the next year's calendar voting. ;D
I think it really has good chances to make the race - especially because of the symmetry or the cars and the slighlty angular presentation.
My vote for sure! ;)

Best,

At a car show yesterday I saw a 280 Sl that had been owned by Farrah Faucet. It has some modifications made to it. Wood Steering wheel, The paited portion of the dash covered with wood vaneer, a center console, wide wheels and fender loovers (similar to the 300SL)

Saw a red US-spec 280 forcing its' way through the salt-covered snowdrifts in Copenhagen this morning and I still can't decide whether I should be horrified or respectful - after all, cars are meant to be driven...or..?

Hey Ulf,
Completely impossible here in Germany either. :o
I have read that two hardtops were factory made of stainless steel. ;)
Maybe some bodies were made of stainless steel as well ...?!?   :D :D

I heard rumors that once a factory 1961 190 fintail was built made of stainless steel. It never rusted.
Daimler-Benz found out that these cars would last too long, that's why they turned back to fast-rusting steel again.
Sadly ...

I drove my 280SL through the salt laden roads of Boston for a few years. I'm now paying the price!

Achim,  Big controversy in Seattle about snow clearing last year, many say it cost the mayor his job.  Anyway this year was the first they started salting roads  and only if a large storm hits.  So I don't think that your car was exposed to salt in the past from Seattle travel.  Probably road trips to other areas.

FINALLY!  After a long dry spell (almost a year since our local Pagoda get-together), driving through warm and sunny Sarasota today on our way back from lunch on the Intercoastal Waterway (rub it in!).  A white (230?) hardtop passed us going the other direction on Hwy 41 at Osprey around 1 pm.  Driver was a man with shoulder-length gray hair.  Unfortunately we were incognito in the R32, so no exchange.  However, a red Panzer gave me a thumbs-up the other day...

Arrived in sunny San Diego Tuesday afternoon and have already seen two, albiet very briefly.  Saw the first on Tuesday (25th) afternoon around 4:30 on Pearl Street.  It was white but could not identify if it was a 230, 250 or 280SL.  Saw the second one today in Del Mar at around 8:30 a.m. going north on Camino Del Mar at 15th Street.  It was grey, hard top on with a gentleman driving.  Anyone from here?  I'm lucky if I see one a year at home and here I've seen two in as many days.  They really love their Porsches here as well it seems.  If we had this climate at home I would have my car out almost every day.  Absolutely beautiful.

College Road in Dulwich..... G reg (1969) 280, RHD

Looked like the same colour as mine (db906) but seemed to have a green tinge to it as we passed going in opposite directions. It had either wires or bundt alloys.

Today about 3PM while driving in the village of Cambria, Ca. I crossed paths with a beautiful looking Black 280 SL (possible 230 or 250) with red interior.  The mature couple were enjoying the 68 degree warm weather with their top down and were heading north, possibly 6 miles up the California coast to Hearst Castle.

It was a treat to see, I only wish I was in my 280SL, but unfortunately I was not.

Have been to a car show today that is held each year at Hanging Rock just out the back gate of my place, 2500 collector vehicles, mainly US/Aust muscle cars and 10,000 visitors, a big show by Australian standards but there was two other 230 SL Pagodas there, one a member the other not.

Not many Pagodas considering a total of two and a half thousand displayed cars.

Under the shadow of the Kinsale Road flyover, the car's smoky dark blue almost blended into the tarmac, but as my eyes readjusted from the strong sunlight, there stood an exquisite LHD 280SL. Only had time to say hello and compliment the car... and find out it's a 28k mile car! Hopefully the owner will check in with us, as I would love to get another look.

Pagodas are really a rare site here in Kuwait, however I saw a very beautiful 1970 280SL off white color with a black hard top.
and a few months ago I saw a complete but abandoned 1969 280SL. After much search I managed to find the owner and he agreed to sell it, when I went to meet him to finalize the deal and do the ownership transfer I was deeply disappointed to learn that he had changed his mind and he was going to keep the car which was sitting there for more than 10 years and still is to date.

anyhow I just managed to buy a dark red 1967 250SL that I will soon park alongside my W111 coupe.
