I just spotted one red 280 model in Warsaw (Poland).

Looks as if the car underwent a rathe unprofessional restoration that at times was rather cheap. It has a modern radio, non original upholstery, etc, and obviously.... No marks on the body by the headlamps... :)
Interestingly, the car has registration numbers that are just one digit away from mines. So the owner must live close, but never saw his car around except for that occasion.

Kildare St, Dublin on my way to a meeting. The exhaust note came up from behind, then a smokey blue w/ soft-top . Good to see one on a wet December morning. Meeting went well too.

Just spotted a white (possibly light beige) Pagoda in Bangkok a couple of days ago with hard top on, looked great and majestic amongst the bangers, pick-ups and tuc-tucs, was it anyone active in here?

This afternoon, around 16:45, making its way from the Geneva 'rive gauche' to the 'rive droite' (or the other way around, I always get that mixed up) in very heavy traffic on the Quai du Mont Blanc, a very nice light metallic blue Pagoda, I believe with the hard top on (I was speeding by with my son on the scooter to drop him off for a laser game birthday party). After I returned from the place I saw it again, just having made its way across the bridge.

that would be rive droite Cees ;D, the rive droite is the right hand side leading to the rhone river, and visa versa for the other.

Whose White and Blue Pagoda in Hollywood?

I passed a White Pagoda with a blue soft top today on Outpost and we both waved. Does anyone know the owner? It always amazes me how many of these drive around that are not somehow connected to this site or that I haven't seen in my shop.

Saw a blue and blue pagoda on Kalakaua Ave this evening in Waikiki.  I was people watching and the car drove by around 6:00 pm.  What a good looking car.  By far the best llooking car I saw all evening.

Saw 57 Pagodas of various colors and years on Sunday and to my delight they all came and parked where I was parked.

Got to get some miles out of it :D :D :D

I am surprised how few Pagodas I see here in Europe ... both in the Netherlands (here in The Hague) where I live now, and during my previous 5 years in Finland.

I think I only saw 2 in Finland and one I've seen here locally in the spring and summer. Now that mine is here, I'm sure to run into him sooner or later!  I saw them with much more frequency when I lived in the states (Michigan, Oregon and California).  I know in the later years of production, the 280s sold especially well in the U.S.  And judging from all the worn-out ones I saw being imported to NL when I picked up my car at the storage depot, the states are the major source for restoration projects here!

Hah. Garry that was funny. Glad to hear that your Pagoda meet went well...

On a separate matter. I know that the powers that be rarely listen to the people (and definitely not to me ;-), but I have noticed that my post in search of another Pagoda member was removed and rolled up into this post. While this is  an entertaining thread, maybe it would help the editors to know that I wouldn't have ever guessed what this post was about from the heading ( I thought it was a poll about who has spotted the most Pagodas or something similar).
Even now (after more than a year since this thread started?) , I would never make it past the first page of posts (I'm not retired just yet) and so I would be highly unlikely to ever be able to respond to someone who happened to spot me somewhere on the road and was trying to connect, via the best and most likely Pagoda meeting site on the globe. Especially, new or casual Pagoda drivers who happened to search the internet or this site and might have stumbled upon my original post titled (Who was just driving a White Pagoda in Hollywood?), would be very unlikely to stop and scroll through this thread. (just my humble opinion)...

Tom,

Maybe what it needs is just a plain "Pagoda Spotting" thread on its own?

I have seen that on other car forums like the Kombi one.

Sure Garry

I kind of thought that is exactly what I did when I started a new thread in the general discussion section that said I spotted a Pagoda on a street in Hollywood... :o
Maybe you have more clout with the Ministry of Truth because most of my threads get removed to a section where I would never look for them :-) ....

Tom,

here are some handy pointers on how to find your posts again, and keep up with the site efficiently...

Thanks Peter

I appreciate you trying to look out for us. I had already adopted most of these pointers you suggest, but you'll agree that they don't address the issue I posted below. I still think there are people (like me), who don't even have the time to read most of the posts since their last visit, but instead maybe two or three threads when we make a visit to the site, which we select by the title that sounds interesting to us. Don't forget, there are billions of sites on the web and if I visit three of my favorites every day, plus 30 of the ones that I have to for my business and everyday life, then I am up to about 6 hours a day (it's true!). Now, I can cut out time spent to take in meals and for sleep (which I do), but in the end the one site where I would like to spend most of my time (to help and to receive benefits from the many helpful people here), seems to get maybe 1/2 h to 1h a month.

I imagine someone who has maybe never visited the site before and who, on a hunch, comes to take a glance after they passed someone, also in a Pagoda, in the Hollywood Hills, might be curious enough to see if there is a forum on the web, where Pagoda owners exchange their thoughts. They might glance at the first page of posts that greet them in the general discussion section. They may or (or, as of now) may not find a post titled: " I just saw a guy in a White Pagoda in Hollywood" and then they might have to move on. I could be completely wrong about my assessment of human behavior and I'm sure you all have much more experience in what does and doesn't work in a site. I guess, this post will probably also have to be removed in order to keep up the proper protocol ;-)

Please take my sometimes tongue-in-cheek remarks only a constructive food for thought. I'm just one user, although I have been there, watched, participated and enjoyed the sharing since the beginning and even before on the old yahoo groups forum. One more thing (this is just an observation, not a dig :-) : I don't think I've participated on a forum in which more of my posts get moved than here. Maybe it's because I don't know how to follow the rules very well ;-)...

Best Regards, Tom Colitt

Hah! Wow! What a nice surprise. It's good to see that input from the people is considered and I think you made a sensible minor change. Also, keeping the thread in the general discussions tab is, I think, a good idea, instead of moving it so far down the ladder that it gets "beyond reach"... Thank you, Garry, Cees, Peter....

Although, Pagoda Spotting could also be confused with the unfortunate practice of painting Black spots on Pagodas so that they resemble Jaguars. A very nasty and humiliating trick to a Mercedes...

Tonight, while standing outside a restaurant here in the Florida Keys, a very nice looking light blue 280 pulls up, top-down, nice engine rumble. We chatted with the owner, he actually visits the forums from time to time. He said he never sees another Pagoda here, and I've not seen one before. It was very nice to 'run into' another Pagoda this way.

yesterday I noticed a bright red 280SL with soft top sleeping on a parking spot two levels below the ground. Several inaccuracies vs original (upholstery, vipers, etc.) but a pleasant view nevertheless.

Interestingly enough, she was accompanies on adjacent spots by a Jag e-type (metallic blue), a Triumph and a russian ZIL, evidently a former government car (longer version with 2 central folded seats).

You're right Stan. Pagodas never came stock with vipers or any other type of theft prevention device or guard dog, for that matter..... ;-) (Ask me how I know...)

I spotted a bright red pagoda in Montclair (Oakland hills) this afternoon.  Both of us had tops down on a beautiful afternoon.
