Thanks Joe for confirming.

Bonnyboy is next - I guess Ian will email his details for you to forward ASAP.

Then the user list in chronological order is:

Eleonard (Eric)
Mark Evans  (Mark)
Scottcorvette (Scott)

I think users should try and turnaround the mask within, say a month or move it on to the next person.

Interesting video. How did you cover the outer rim?
Do you have another part like the original did, see photo?

Could you please put my name on the list? I think I have 3 to 4 months to finish my car and would love to have the mask.

Hello all.

Once I receive the masks I expect that it will only take me a couple weeks to get everything done.

They are in the mail already so they should arrive in my hands soon.

I received the masks today at lunch.  I took an extra 30 minutes for lunch, ran home and put 2 coats of paint on the hubcaps and they are now ready to head off to the next set.   Not the greatest but better than masking tape.

Just waiting for eleonard to respond to me with an address and they can be on their way.

Mark I have to send one of my hubcaps to be re-done so it is unlikely I will be ready by the time the mask arrives, maybe I could swap places with cstinchi?

If he is not in a rush then send it on to me but it is likely to be 6 weeks before I would be done with it at this rate, I'll be sending my centre cap away next week. I guess this will force my hand on the colour choice, it's looking anthracite at the moment....

I'll PM you my address anyway in case the other man is going to be even longer than I am.

Mark and Scott,

I have sent a message to both of you re the Mask.

Scott made an offer of a donation to the Group and at the Group Board Meeting at the Weekend during PUB the Board decided that it may be better that Scott’s offer be converted into two extra hubcap masks one to be kept in UK/Europe and another in North America.  I am still in the process of doing some research on masks available and anyone else that has had experience with one from one of the suppliers can PM me with comments on the performance of their mask so that we select the best one for use by the Group.

I also want to publicly thank Scott for his very kind offer that will be put to good use with the mask prevously donated to the Group from this point forward.

Hub Cap Stencil
« Reply #60 on: October 03, 2015, 22:45:51 »
One of our members, Scottcorvette, has offered to make a donation to the Group in appreciation of the help he has been getting from the Forum.

At PUB the Board discussed this offer and all agreed that the best thing that Scott could do was to purchase two additional stencils for hub cap painting, to add to the existing one that has floated around the world over the past couple of years.  This way we could keep one in UK, one in USA and a third in Australia available to all Full Members for use on the understanding that they would then be responsible for forwarding the stencil to the next person wanting them.

This is an appeal for anyone who has used stencils on their hub caps to advise what they thought of the item and what brand it was that they used. I believe there are several different tyes out there.

Comments sought please

I have a stencil that I never used.  It is made of some sort of rubber.  If anyone would like to try it let me know.

Brad,

That is the same as the existing one that the Group has.  I have used the inner part on my dog dish caps and it worked well. Maybe we should buy yours as the USA Group stencil and that way we only have to get one for UK.

Let me know who needs it and I'll send it along.  I have the 2 piece hubcaps so this will not fit mine.  I originally bought it for my 280 SE 4.5 and no longer have the car.

Brad,

I have used that same stencil on my Dog Dish hubcap, i.e. the two piece wheel trim   I found the outer stencil unit did not work that well and taped the outer but the inner stencil worked well.

I neet to talk to Mark Evans here in Australia to see who was next on the list and will advise.

We had horrible luck with a soft rubber type stencil once and I would not recommend it. The absolute best results are with fine line tape and a good painter. It may take more time to do but it's worth the effort.

Can you just hold on for the moment as Mark Evans had the list of those that had requested the mask and is managing it at the moment. Some have been waiting months for it to arrive from the last user.

Thanks

There appears to be two schools of thought on the value of of using a stencil for the hub caps. Some appear to find them fine and some hate them.

Has anyone tried the metal one with handle produced by BABAK?

Brad,

I have contacted Mark. He will hold the one here for Australasia in the future.  Can you sent your stencil to Caio Stinchi cstinchi and then when you are done with it please send it to Scott  Scottcorvette

Scott, once you have finished with it can you hold on to it for UK Euro members that may want it.  Meanwhile I will continue research into an additional one for to be held in USA and advise you separately on the way forward.

Here is my $.02 regarding the flexible mask / stencil.   It was just ok.  Nothing spectacular but good enough for my use.

The outside stencil gave me a great line and I was very happy with it.   The inside stencil however did not seem to allow the paint into the corners and I needed to spray the hubcaps three times to get enough paint in there.  If I didn't spray three times there is a definate lack of paint.   I just used a regular spray can from Lordco so no tight pattern HVLP guns.  Results may vary.

If I had the opportunity to use the stencil again and I had another 5 beat up hubcaps would I use it again - absolutely.  It was painless and quick and the edges were fine enough for me.  Not even close to show quality but there is nothing on my car that is show quality.

I fully agree with Ian about the inner stencil.

I have done 2 hubs with the stencil. (I previously tried masking last year with mixed results).

Its much quicker than masking by hand with tape - well you just place the stencil on the hub - versus 45 minutes taping it by hand!

Overall final result with the stencil is medium but for me was slightly better than my first taping effort.
