I think I had good results printing what we have in Technical Manual on the self adhesive foil.

Thanks for the advice! I was able to hammer the thrust piece back into place. It rotates, but not as freely as others. I turned it 180 degrees in the hope that this prevents it from getting dislodged again.

The spring holding the rocker arm down was loose. It was either not attached correctly or it's just worn out.

A picture of the new bride in the Pagoda would be the topper to this story!

W11x chassis cars / Re: Verify wheel fit
« Last post by SEB on October 08, 2025, 15:22:25 »
Hi Bob,

I also had a March 1967 250SE high grill coupe in Papyrus White with chrome side trim, so I know these cars well.

14 x 6.5 Bundt (Mexican hat) rims will fit your 250SE  without major issues if you choose the right offset and tire size.

Rims:
Original Bundt wheels for W108/W111 had ET30 offset. This keeps the wheels centered in the fenders.

Tires:

195/70 R14 for closest to original diameter

205/70 R14 for a slightly wider fit that still clears the fenders

Avoid ET25 or lower, as the wheels may rub the front fenders when turning.

W11x chassis cars / Re: washer foot switch dilema

Hi,
You're right — the W108 wiring around the wiper/washer circuit is indeed very close to the Pagoda (W113), but there are a few small differences depending on production year and equipment.

On your 5-pin foot switch:

15/54 – is the 12 V ignition-switched feed.

Washer pump contacts – activate the washer motor when the pedal is pressed lightly.

Wiper contacts – connect when you press harder, sending power to the wiper relay or motor.

31a / 31b – these are not permanent grounds; they are return paths through the switch body, used to complete the circuit for the washer pump and/or wiper relay coil.

Typically:

31a goes to the wiper motor’s park switch or relay (ground control).

31b may be tied to chassis ground to ensure proper switching function or to the washer pump ground (depending on version).

In many restored cars, people simply bridge 31b to chassis ground and connect 31a to the wiper park switch — that reproduces the correct operation.

Let me also add that what you plan on doing for the engine is definitely in this right category here of Research & Development. Modifying any of our engines is in that realm.

In the world of American iron, you can find plenty of "how to" books on modifying any number of engines for more horsepower and or torque. From the lowly slant 6 (170-224 CID) Mopar unit, to the small block Ford V8s such as the 260-289-302, there's a book on it, with how to...and many parts sources. Of course the larger ones such as big block V8s get more attention and plenty of how to on those as well, but my point is that even on somewhat humble smaller engines used on family sedans, the "more power" mods are there. Those of you who have been to any big American car show and seen an otherwise nameless and faceless sedan with some giant blower sticking out the hood and who knows what done to the engine knows what I mean.

Not so much with our engines I'm afraid. I've yet to find the book. While some things can be done with clarity (shaved head, oversize pistons, etc.) there may be a lot of fog ahead.

Your results will be of significant interest to many who harbor the same ideas as you but don't say much!

W11x chassis cars / washer foot switch dilema
« Last post by BenzKraft on October 08, 2025, 10:09:31 »
I've been assembling a W108-058 (280SE LWB 3.5 manual)  here which the owner picked up as an unfinished project. And because the wiring is very similar to a pagoda, I figured this is the best place to ask.
The wiring has been chopped out  meaning i Have to make a new loom ::). Because of this ,  I was trying to sort out the wiper motor wiring .The foot switch doesn't resemble anything in any of the wiring diagrams .It has 5 pins. There is a 12Vsupply,marked  15/54 and on each side are the pins which connect the washer pump(1st position)  and by pressing harder, connecting the wiper .
But there are two other pins which are marked  31a and 31b . As far as i know this means they are direct feed to ground. What is supposed to connect to these?
