Just cheating here a little, but I saw a silver Gullwing today driving along the Santa Barbara waterfront.  I was going in opposite direction in the Pagoda, so I couldn't follow to try to chat him up. I gave him an approving "thumbs up" I see a couple of 300 SLs each year, so encountering one on the street is not common, even in Southern California. Years ago I saw five traveling together on the PCH just south of Newport Beach.  That was quite a sight.

hey Ya'll

Yesterday when my garage was getting it's annual termite inspection, the tech said that he had just seen a Pagoda at a shop in Lawrenceville. He went to his truck and showed me some pictures of the DeVille that he was looking at, and parked next to it was a white 67 230SL automatic.

yesterday while driving around, top down and in 75 degree weather,  8)  i spotted a brown pagoda with chrome wheels parked across the street from the santa barbara police station. this is actually the second time i've seen it parked there. my thought was that maybe it's owned by a police dept. employee. i dismissed the thought however as a little closer inspection revealed a registration sticker that said 2005. bad place to be parked with expired registration!

i'm still keeping my eyes peeled for rod and his red beauty. i'd love to see his car in person running around town.

Hey Bo. I'd say the expired plates might confirm it's a Police employee... just kidding -- if there are any of our Nation's Finest out there. My wife (8 years) and sister (16 years and still) worked for the SBPD. I can ask if anybody has one.

And I say you and Rod need to set up a Pagoda session -- I bet others from the south would want to cruise up for a visit... (and with advanced notice, I may even make it!)

Saw one in Portland, OR yesterday, parked with the top down. In Portland in April that is a brave driver.

Sunday 22 April was 'drive it' day in the UK. A weak attempt by the classic car community to get everyone out in their cars. To be fair, it was probably better attended out of London than in but I did see three new (to me ) Pagodas in the manor, extra to the two others within as many streets of my house. I always think that is a bit strange as there are not many other classics in town that are seen much apart from a few Astons and the odd Merc sedan and of course 911's.
I also saw a brilliant white one the other day that looked good, it was busy and he didn't look like a 'lamp flasher' to me so we didn't say hello.....I wonder if he's reading this now. Are you? Hello.
Anyway, I am watching 'The Core' on Film 4, a high end sci fi flick about the Earth ending due to magnetic core failure etc etc, God bless Hollywood. So must go in case I lose my place and then I wont know whats likely to happen, will I?

Curiosity had me taking this one even more off track...It seems that Selfridges is more or less the London equivalent of a Nordstrom's or Macy's here in the USA? No autoparts that I can tell!

Anyway, I can't help but imagine Mr. Humphries leaping over the counter to offer me a hand....

Getting back on track, on the way to dinner last evening, I saw a black Pagoda, top down, on Coast Village Road in Montecito.  Couldn't read the badging, since I was going the other way in a parking lane.

Does this count? (How about half a point?) My Pagoda was spotted by another owner...

Yesterday, I decided to pull into a local church parking lot to mess with my idle (figured I could use the help!). Anyway, a gentleman pulled up next to me. Turns out he has a red 230SL at home. Nice guy and yes, I pushed the Website. Hope he turns up here... And Dick, he sounded interested in a Nevada County drive one of these days.

Spotted five in or near Monterey, CA in the past two weeks:

One beautiful green 280sl in the shop at Stahl motors in Monterey, another  280sl (gold) in their parking lot (the owner had put a strange looking hood ornament on it, my apologies if it's another SL group subscriber but it did not appeal to me!)  A white 2?0sl (only had a front view as it approached me)in Seaside, a light blue 280sl cruisin' in the Carmel area and a white 230sl patrolling downtown Monterey (I'm pretty sure it was not the same as the aforementioned Seaside sl based on license plate differences.)  (Several months ago I spotted a light blue 250sl zipping along Carmel Valley road)  All seemed to be in good repair and occupied by happy people.  Oh, and I saw the reflection of a gorgeous white '64 230sl roadster in a large plate glass window as I was driving mine in Monterey - does that count as #6?  The driver was grinning from ear to ear!

Are there any other high density pagoda areas out there?

I was travelling with my son to the shore on the Garden State Parkway. We stopped at a rest area. On our way outside, there was a group of people standing around a car. As I got closer, I realized the car was a 1966 Silver 230SL. My son said to me, "That car looks the same as mine" I said, "Yes it does." I looked at the license plate and realized it was mine. There were about 10 people looking at it. One lady got my attention and we talked for about 45 minutes. She said that her husband had a 1981 380 SL and always wanted a Pagoda. She called him on the phone and he told her to take pictures of the car. While she took the pictures, I talked to him on her cell phone about my car. The experience made me feel great. She told me how  nice my car was and here I'm thinking how much work on it still needs to be done. It was a wonderful trip.

I don't often see a pagoda here in southern Ontario (Canada) but on Sunday while driving into Orangeville on the Hockley Road, I met a green pagoda going the other way.  Unfortunatly, I was driving my wife's car so waving or flashing lights wouldn't have meant anything to the other driver.  Hope he is a member of this great club!

I had a journey to Hamburg last month. The weather was fine, and I saw in a week 4 pagodas in daily traffic, as well as 2 convertible W111 and other good old mercedes. As I had my camera, I could picture some of them, for instance this one whose registration reminds our club:

Spotted (but wish I had missed) a metallic maroon 280sl with gleaming chrome wire wheels on the display lawn of Red Barron Auctioneer in Atlanta.  It fit in with the rest of the outrageous and garrish lawn sculptures (12-foot-tall lions for your front gate; a 30-foot fountain for your back yard, etc.)

Yeesh.

Last Thursday (May 17th, 5:30 PM) just as my wife was picking me up to go out of town:  A Tobacco Brown 280SL, top down, windows up, westbound on Rt.7 in Tysons Corner.  It was a nice day for going topless!

See 'em all the time here in DC -- but on Sunday, while looking at Open Houses I met a former owner who took me to his garage and gave me a box full of parts he'd neglected throwing away -- including the appropriate chrome rear-view for my 230!  A shout-out to you, former 230 sl owner Larry Doyle! (he now drives a Boxster...!)

There is at least one other 280 sl in town here in northern michigan, usa. I see it on nice days. his/hers is white. Our town has not seen mine in years (10-15), but is soon to see much more of it.
