We have lived here in a rural part of California for about the past 12 years and the number of Pagodas we have seen on the roads up here you could count on one hand. Well a couple of weeks ago my wife spotted a gold 280SL while she was driving a couple of miles from our home. Since that time we have spotted the very same car TWO more times!!  Unfortunately, he was heading the opposite direction all three times. Looks to be reasonably good shape, with headrests and bumper over riders. Sound familiar to any member?

Well, our area is similar to Johns in that other Pagodas are pretty rare. In the cooler months, I know for a fact about three owners here "hibernate" So, seeing one in February is really rare. Howwwwevvvver, a couple of weeks ago in downtown Grass Valley I spotted a really smart looking light blue 230SL with the hardtop on. A distinguished, grey-bearded gentleman of about 75 was behind the wheel. I may have seen him once before but have no idea who he is.

But the real treat was the next morning, when at about 730 in the morning as I was taking my high schooler to school, I saw approaching me, a top-down black 190SL with a young lady wearing a scarf and shades. As she whizzed by I thought -- now you don't exactly see that every day!  :o (it was clear and about 42 degrees by the way).

Just saw one on TV.
It was on the show "Chasing Classic Cars" with Wayne Carini. It was a maroon 280SL...looked great.  It showed him stopped at a stop sign and people walking by making comments. Something we can all relate to.  It was cool seeing a guy who has driven, owned, and dealt with many super expensive and rare cars give a Pagoda it's due.  He seemed to really love it.

One hour ago I spotted one, possibly Arabian Grey, with the top down. We are having wonderful weather.
I was on 94 East in Northbrook IL, USA and it was on the frontage road (Skokie Rd) going South.
I spotted it just as it was passing a Mercedes Benz dealer ... fate.
Any one here ???

Wife and I are spending the weekend in Monterey, CA and today around 2:00pm I spotted  a brown Pagoda going north on HWY 156 near Castroville. Hardtop with roof rack was on.  I haven't seen many Pagodas "in the wild" so this was a real treat :)

John

Wow. If it was the factory rrof rack, that really is rare :-).... You didn't get pictures of that did you?.....

Been in Europe three weeks (St. Petersburg today) and have not seen one pagoda other then Peter's a couple of weeks ago. Did see one vintage citroen in Bamburg Germany:-)

John

John. I don't think the Leningrad dealership originally got a large allotment of Pagodas in the first place, so it makes sense that you are having a hard time spotting any :-)......

True enough, although consider that now Sweden has more Pagodas than were originally delivered there. And with the recent wealth surge in Russia, coupled with a penchant for display of that wealth through elegant unassuming vehicles (such as the Hummer line-up), and the ability to 'find' good examples just to the west, Pagodas may be more plentiful in St Petersburgh than one might expect  ;D

We were all over Europe on that trip, including most of the Scandinavia countries. Saw lots of Maybachs, Lambos, Ferraris,  Stretched hummers, etc in St. Petersburg. Did see a really nice blue 107 in Oslo with the top off. Peter's was the only Pagoda (in Enkirch) that we saw, and a beauty it is.

And since we and the opposing brown Pagoda were both tooling along at around 60 mph, I didn't get a chance to get a photo of him over in Monterey. Need one of those dash cams that the police use:-)

Hi John

Yes. That's the great thing about those Scandinavians. They love to drive around with their tops off :-)....

Spotted one today in Brunswick, Maine. It was a red 1970 280SL. I spoke with it's owner, a nice lady. She loves the car and loves Gernold!

Wayne's business ...F40 Motor Sports in Portland, CT...is about 45 miles from my home. He typically holds an Open House on a Saturday in May that attracts car enthusiasts from all around the area. He usually has a W113 or two in his inventory. I would guess these cars while not as exotic as others he works on, are a good all around solid vehicle to market.

I was out for a short cruise along the beach in Del Mar CA, top down sun shinning.  It was my 5 year old daughters first ride.  We passed a 280 in what looked like light beige, with the hard top on.  A lady driver who appeared to be using the pagoda as her daily transport didn't notice our wave.  Nice to see other pagoda owners on the road  :)

I got back from traveling today, and was coming out of the car park by the San Diego airport (Kettner Blvd for the locals) and saw a white (guessing DB 050) with black soft top. It was just ahead of me in traffic and got on the 5 heading south. Quite a sharp and crisp car, looked quite freshly redone. Florida plates. A dandy 280 SL.

Light blue Pagoda in my street. Stopped the driver and chatted with him, pointed him to the site! I hope he signs up.

Couple of days ago, passed a blue metallic one heading into Geneva city on the Route de Lausanne. Looked to be in great condition. Then, only maybe twenty seconds later, I was behind a ... 190 SL! Heading onto the highway at the Chambesy intersection. Also very nice looking black shiny.

Saw a Black or Dark Blue Pagoda convertable with the top down which had been pulled over by a State Trooper on I-405 near Bellevue, Washington (across the lake from Seattle).  Hopefully it was just a minor violation.
