Hi Harle,
welcome! I think this forum is terrific and I'm sure you'll find it supportive. Regarding a barn find, I have no experience, but my feeling is that *someone* has to wake the sleeping beauty. So ask yourself: if not yourself,
 who do you trust to do it? It would be too terrible to contemplate the car staying in the barn until eventually it can't be saved at all.

Exactly what you do with it lies somewhere inside a tetrahedron whose four corners are money, time, talent and interest. Talent includes mechanical skills but also your interpersonal skills with contacts in the various communities. Interest includes what you want to do with the car, both now and eventually, as well as what you want the car to look like. (Sorry about the tetrahedron, I'm a math teacher :D)

One small point: there's a database in the Technical Manual where the community would like to track every 113, if possible. When you find out the VIN of the barn find, please enter it in the database.

We would all love to see pictures at every stage, so I hope you have a camera. Good luck!

hello, I am Tom Walgamuth.  I have been a mercedes addict now for about 40 years.  There was a period in there when I did not own any but I came back.  I have owned over 30 benzes mostly older diesels.

 I am trying to buy a pagoda from a friend of mine  that has owned his for a long time.  He may be the original owner.  It is supposed to be rust free and wearing its original paint but I have not had the chance to look at it yet and he appears to be in no hurry.  He says it is buried in his garage and he is embarressed to let me look at it until he uncovers it.

Just in case you might be thinking I am being led on I have seen the car but it has been at least 20 years I suppose.

I am hoping it might be an all or mostly mechanical restoration because I am comfortable with mechanical things and would not want to get into a rusty car at any price.

My name is Jack Jones and I am an SLaholic. I joined about 3 weeks ago even though I have had a 1970 280SL for about 24 years. The car is in the middle of a ground up restoration and should be finished later this year. I also have a 107 chassis 280SL 5 speed to drive while I finish the 113.

Hello to all,

I've been a MB enthusiast all of my life and have owned one in the past. As I get closer to retirement I have my sights set on an Pagoda as I find the design and style absolutely timeless. Mike Salemi encouraged me to make an intro here after I sent him an email for some recommendations to some buyers guide books. If any of you Pagoda owners are from the Dallas, Texas area please shoot me an email as I would like to buy you a cup of coffee and pick your opinions and guidance on owning a Pagoda.

Hello All,

I am both a new member of the Pagoda SL Group and proud new owner of a '67 250SL. I purchased "Adelaide" (as I have come to call her) in late 2011 and could not be happier that I did so! As a 24-year-old, I field many questions about why I so badly wanted a classic SL: I have always been enamored with its design (inside and out), timelessness, and pure class. I had looked for a Pagoda since college, and finally came upon the one I have after much searching.

The car was fully restored in 1988; it is a European model through-and-through, but has spent about 99% of its life in the States. It continues to reside in Northern NJ, just outside of Manhattan, as it has since the early 1970s. I was (very) fortunate to have acquired the car from an older gentleman looking for it to go to a good, new home (which it did  :) ). Luckily, he kept impeccable records - right down to the mileage/cost of every fueling; I plan to continue this extensive documentation. I have attached a side shot of it (more to follow if there are any requests!). White exterior, black interior (save the white steering wheel and shift-knob); 4-spd; just over 99,000km as of a few weeks ago.

Hello Dan, welcome to our forum and you will not regret your recent acquisition. I also was 24 when I bought my 280SL (for same reasons as yourself) and it still with us 43 years later. Your 250 looks like a beauty and yes, please post a few more photos.

Welcome Dan! Congratulations on your purchase, sounds like you went about it the right way.

By posting a picture, you invite the meticulists here to comment. I for one can see the brightwork around the windshield could be replaced, and your PO did not know how to prevent the soft top corners from curling up. The latter is an easy fix, and for the former, at least the install procedure was covered here last weekend in a post dealing with windshield installation.

Anyway, best of luck as you discover the car and the information maintained by this group of enthusiasts. You've come to the right place!

I have not been able to get my Pagoda seller off dead center.  I have an idea about getting him motivated.  Does anybody have some pictures of a red pagoda roof with boxes and bugs and dust all over it?

My name is Kwasi, just graduated from college and since my childhood, I've been crazy about SL's.
From my grandfather's 230SL manual to the 300 gullwing. I joined the group because I want to learn as much as possible about Pagoda's.

I'm planning on buying one this summer/fall

I'm Paul, a Welsh Dutchman from Cardiff & a retired Petrochemical Engineer.

After 10 years with my 1935 Alvis Firebird Tourer, I have now bought a 1967 white Automatic 250 SL , having lusted after the "Pagoda" since they were new.

I joined the Pagoda SL Group whilst researching prior to purchase, and  have been impressed with the breadth of membership.
I am a regular contributer to the Kia Sorento UK forum, and hope to become active on this forum - after putting a few more miles on the clock.

Hello, just joined after purchasing my 70 280sl last week. I live in Honolulu and also own a w111 1970 cabriolet. I have been peeking at this site since I purchased the 280se three years ago but now that I also own a SL, felt inclined to join. What a great site and tremendous resource. Had something like this existed for my 280se, it would have saved lots of time -although I did check here whenever I had an engine/drivetrain question.

Will post pics once I get away from the iPad.

Hello Group,

I joined a couple of months ago to learn more about these cars while searching for one.  Just purchased a 1968 250SL Manual 4 speed (later 250)  from the original owner since new in 1968.  The car was a sunday driver for them and in very original condition ... I plan on keeping it as original as possible.  It was repainted once and soft top was replaced once.  Servicing was done at same dealership where they purchased it for the last 44 years.   The car is white with blue interior ... not sure which white or which blue until I get into the identification of numbers etc.

I am working and living in France and the car will be in Southern California at my permanent home and so I will not be there to meet it for a few more weeks and will post some photos at that time.  My wife, who really has loved these cars for 20 years, will be enjoying it.  Trying to find a way to tell her that's it OUR car and not hers ... wish me luck. 

The only immediate work I want to do on the car is to replace the Seat Pads, the covers are original and in quite excellent shape.  The pads are not falling apart, but I do love the full firm look and feel of restored seats.  Have read quite a bit about Seat Pads on this forum ... now to find the right ones. 

This site has great information and I appreciate it very much ... will keep a look out for any So Cal gathering.  I did see that a few of you took your 113's on a Palos Verdes run a year ago ... right in my neighborhood ... would like to join you if you do it again (all of your cars looked perfect, a bit intimidating).

 Great to hear a Pagoda is crossing the Atlantic this way instead of the other way around :) and Palos Verdes is a great spot for your SL and from the looks of your car's photo, she is a beauty. I had many a pleasant drive there in my SL when we were both youngsters many years ago.

Since my childhood I have liked Pagodas and am interested in buying a driver (not a show car) sometime in the next year. For sentimental reasons I would really like a right-hand-drive car, but I would gladly have a left-hand-drive car if I can't find a RHD one. I look forward to learning more about these cars from this group and welcome any contact with members in New England.

Dear DSG,

I also joined prior to purchase ... and it helped to understand the details of this car.  I would think that if you found this site, you have also found moteringinvestments as he does list all the original trademarks to help identify originality ...  if that's important to you.   My goal was basically find an unmolested car that's been maintained ...  not an easy task, but found one.   best of luck finding a RHD ... the brits usually snap them up and rightfully so.
