Interesting features in this '67 230SL on Car Wizard

The coco mats at 5:58 are identical to the ones that were originally sold with my car and are reflected on my car's build sheet. They were also in tatters, but I can more clearly see the pattern and style in this car.

Very interesting aluminum(?) fan at 9:10, compared to my plastic or whatever it is fan on my "'64" (build date was Feb. '65).

Maybe MB installed whatever they had that day in the parts bin? My German spec 280SL built in November 1970 has a plastic fan.

I too can vouch for MB fitting whatever they had available, given my late 66 230 has a long stroke crank and 250 rods fitted to it.

Since this is the "originality" forum, I'll ask you, Duncan200, how do you know that those parts were installed at the factory?  🏭

You can fit a 230SL head on to a 250SL block. Just saying.

Hi Dan,

Yes, that's true.  This forum is about factory originality, and Duncan200 seems to believe that the factory put a long stroke crankshaft and 250SL piston rods in his 230SL.  That's what I'm questioning.

Yes, and the answer is a 250 block.

Gee Rod if I knew you were going to be like a dog with a bone, I wouldn’t have mentioned it.

I was merely going of what my engine builder said whilst he was rebuilding my engine and it appears the rods available from Niemoller for the later 230’s also fit in a 250. He also said he was fairly confident no one had been in there before, but I’m going off of his opinion.

Happy to delete the post if it upsets anyone.

Ha!  Sorry, didn't mean to be annoying.  Maybe someone in 1970 was trying to hot rod it a bit to keep up with the 280SLs?   ???

Given my daily is a 430hp Audi SQ7, as we say here, the 230 wouldn’t pull the skin off a rice pudding.

This was an interesting video of a very original & relatively unmolested late 230SL. One thing that cracked me up was the "wrinkle" below the RH windshield pillar. My car has this as well (through far less severe), which I tried to fix during its restoration, but it still shows up (and appears to be temperature dependent). Do other 230s have this issue as well? Drives me crazy at times -- but not crazy enough to try and fix it again (which will probably result in it looking worse...).

I don't see the wrinkle in the video. Can you grab a screen shot from the video that shows it?  I'll look at my car, as it's an Oct 66 build.
