It should have a hole for the spring. You may have it turned around so that the hole is on the back side.

Was it a new thrust/throwout bearing? if not it really is the time to change it which it all out. A new bearing will have the correct hole, as Dan says.

It’s a new one…

My bearing is new, oem from Benz and identical to the old one. I will double check to see if the old one has holes that I missed but I doubt. If no holes, I will leave it like this…
When I fixed everything I tilted the whole assembly several times and grease all the moving parts… everything seemed to be ok and move smoothly… if apparently those retainers were missing when refurbishing the gear box, having it now is already a good move. Considering the pictures sent by Charles230sl it seems working properly, please Charles correct me if I’m wrong…

I can’t hide that I was happy to put the engine back in the bay yesterday for the 3rd time, (which is fun but a bit repetitive 😁). I fully agree that if something is wrong it has to be addressed, but I have the feeling that it could fly as is…

Done 😁
As stated by Dan this is clearly wrong. The spring will fall of sooner or later and rear part will start spinning - loose contact with throw out fork.
See attached pictures for correct assembly

Thanks !
Now it's time to put back the radiator and proceed to the tuning...
I have to flush the clutch and check about throttle linkage, ignition timing, and CO ratios
I will fix a lambda sensor in the exaust to measure properly the Air-Fuel-Ratio and ajust the FIP in accordance...

Still 1000kms to do, and then back to oil change, head tightening and that will be it... I hope  ::)

Changed the rotten sway bar bushings and had some issues to make it without significant amount of force…

I then figured out that it couldn’t work like this because the sway bar was hitting the chassis… see the pic…

Believe me or not, the sway bar has been set upside down… when I understood it couldn’t be like that I corrected the assembly and it went like a charm…

take care to tighten the 4 pcs rubber buffer on swing bar correctly.
two hex head nuts are tightened down until you measure 23 +/-1mm from upper nut to the top end of 200mm long main screw.

Thanks a lot. I was about to fine tune this part with the references I took in place before replacing them see pic...

Hmmm, that’s not even close to the correct value in the metric system 😂

Still into my fine tuning I was surprised to see my crankshaft seal positionned that way… I mean not flush against the block. Is it normal ??
