Drive shaft replacement
« on: October 08, 2025, 18:08:14 »
The transmission end flange of my 1966 Automatic 230 SL driveshaft failed and I'm not sure if it can be repaired or I need a replacement.  Has anyone experienced this before?  Any suggestions?

Hi Bob,

Give these guys a call. They were able to repair my driveshaft once and rebuild it once… worth a shot.

This is a picture of the damaged flange.  According to the SLS diagram, I have an early 230 SL.

If it's regular steel it can be repaired relatively easily by a competent fabricator.

Should be fairly easy to locate a replacement driveshaft but in any event any competent driveshaft o/haul shop will probably have be able to replace the yoke (the failed part).

The amazing Joe Alexander had a spare flange, so I'm in business.  The local drive shaft shop is fully capable of replacing the flange and then balancing both shafts together.

Thanks for the recommendations!
