The hose attached to the front of crank case, where does it connect to?

I think that tube comes from the plastic fuel evaporation tank in the trunk which vents the fuel tank.  Directs fuel vapor from the gas tank back into the engine - so part of the emissions control.  This setup started in 1970 and replaced the "atmospheric" venting setup in earlier cars.
