Crunching noise coming from A pillar area
« on: July 15, 2025, 21:23:26 »
My car has started to make crunching noises coming from (I think) where the front of passenger door fits under the A Pillar (edge of windshield).  It sounds like friction rather than a mechanical rotational noise.

Has anyone experienced that?

I was in direct sunlight for 5+ hours on Sunday mostly sitting at traffic lights or crawling on the freeway while I cooked in my black leather interior.   I don't know if the door expanded in the heat.

Is my door misaligned.   I don't remember doing anything more stupid than normal in my car.

Is there a lubricant that may help?

There are lubrication points on the hinges (search door hinge lube).  I can't imagine heat expanding the door and closing the gap, but I'm not a metallurgist.

I think it may your door check assembly or the door check cam.  There’s a Teflon roller on the check that wears out and will make a odd noise as you open the door.  Usually it makes the noise twice since the cam stops the door in two positions.
