I have a theory.
« on: June 05, 2025, 14:06:02 »
After spending the last couple hours re-installing the speedometer on my W-113 I have a theory that the following conversation regularly took place at the factory:
Foreman:  Deiter, it has come to my attention that you have been late to work 3 times this month.
Dieter: Yes, it is true.  I am very sorry.
Foreman: Because this is your third offence, we are moving you to dashboard assembly.
Dieter: NOOOOOO!  Anything but that!

That goes along with another couple of theories I have...

1. That the assembly line starts with the blower motor suspended by wire, and the car is built around it.

2. (not related to Pagodas but most new cars): The chief engineer sets the procurement staff to find the cheapest carpet supplier on earth for the new cars. The staff scours the world, comes up with some really cheap stuff in every sense of the word, and presents the product and pricing at a planning meeting. The chief engineer looks at the material (pure crap) and the pricing (even that was too high) and sends them away saying "not good enough! go back and do better". So as a joke the staff gets some dryer lint, mixes with a little latex, and presents to the chief engineer.  "PERFECT" he says...

Welcome back, Shvegel!

If I am not mistaken you haven’t posted in a couple of years.  I recall following your restoration with great interest a few years back.

I hope all is well with you.

Knowing Pat (Shvegel) personally and what he is tinkering on, maybe you can read about some of his restoration efforts elsewhere. Maybe on an "Aircooled Porsche" forum??😎😏😉
