I remember another post where the member changed his pipes for these ones after ruining his wife's trousers when she stood behind the car when he started it, i don't think he was very popular!

Ha!  Funny.  Well, the tips of these old ones are dirty, so I imagine the crimping or whatever inside the tube is best effort.  Hard to make a good seal without a little weld.

I recently bought a new aftermarket exhaust system for my 1975 MB 450SL and those strang angled down tips came with the package.  I elected not to install them

I believe that the early - 1972 107s had straight tipped exhaust ends.
I bought a pair of the fake out angled down chrome exhaust tips for 107 from the SLShop in GB but they didn't fit.
Their diameter was too small to fit over exhaust ends.
I always disliked the crude exhaust tips on 107s and that bulky barrel muffler hanging down from the rear.
But what I don't want is a louder sport exhaust.

Here is your chance! There is a pair of tips for sale on eBay right now at $425 for the pair plus $24 for shipping

No - 225578984920

I have no involvement in this sale, I run a standard search on eBay keeping an eye out for the tips and it showed up today.

Perhaps the seller should contact the person that just bought the tool kit on Bring a Trailer at $3200+ ::) ::) ::)

Yes, I think they were an option/fit in the snowier (?) locations as pipes less likely to clog

While I started this thread with a single link to the roger bray site for these tips,  I've since found a number of other 356 suppliers with the same tips.  Some of these are in the US as well.  Just so people aren't waiting for the one site to get them back in stock.

Garry and all,
I bought a pair at Sierra Madre Porsche parts:
https://sierramadrecollection.com/
P/N: 547.54.110
I have NOT installed them yet.
"12 parts in stock".
I have no connection with the vendor except I am a customer.
Good luck all.
I hope to have them on for the Chicago get together.

Yes, sierramadrecollection is one I found.

You can also find them on Pelican Parts (https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/54654101.htm?pn=546-54-101-STO&SVSVSI=4209&DID=196861).  Pelican gets theirs from Stoddard but I was unable to find it on Stoddards site.

Also Klasse356, https://klasse356.com/catalog/showItems.asp?Category=EXH, go to the second to last entry.  You can ask them for a picture.

And Dr911, https://dr911.ca/shop/muffler-tip-with-square-rolled-edge/.

So sad to think of all the effort that our late friend Hauser (Fernando) went through to re-create these locally, when an extremely reasonable substitute was available...
I suspect his efforts cost him considerably more than the $70 each price tag the Porsche parts folks are asking.

Those deflector tips were originally designed for USA cars which had the big rubber safety bumpers.

Does anyone else rush in to do a job without giving it much thought, i certainly do and i never seem to learn

Spent 20 minutes wrestling with the nuts that hold my old non MB exhaust tips on, with no success and a lot of hot air

Left it for a day and then realised the nuts are welded on, the only loose nut was the one holding the spanner.  Just needed to loosen the grub screws, 10 seconds!

Fitted the new square ended tips, they fit very well, amply long enough, i haven't seen any originals in person, but i can't see how you could tell the difference when fitted

I've left them extended about 40mm from the bumper, there's enough length to bring them out further, or push them in, if that's what you prefer

Thanks again Marcus for the lead

I ordered a set from Pelican Parts and received them today.  They’re imported by Stoddard here in the states.  They claim that these are manufactured by the same company that produced them for the 356 back in the day.  If that’s true, they may have produced them for Mercedes as well? I have only one OEM squared tip and unless you examine them closely and side by side you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference, especially from what is visible once installed.

Thanks to both Marcus and  BobH for letting us know about their availability!  One more originality box ticked.
