Daisy Jones and the Six
« on: March 04, 2023, 03:39:40 »
My wife just started watching a new series on amazon called Daisy Jones and the Six, set in the 70's.   She spotted this one in a scene and called me in to ask if it looked like my car....I don't know, what do you guys think? a 280?   She must have been thrown off by the Euro headlights and lack of side marker lights.  Its even close to the same color, or whatever Mercedes shade is nearest to yellow, could be ivory?  I don't think there was an actual yellow.  Clearly the car was the star of the whole scene if you watch it all through, you won't even notice the cute girls...at least I didn't at first, so I don't know what that says about me, but I'll live with it. ;-).  Now I have to go binge watch the whole damn thing for more cars...some sweet 70's tunes all throughout so no problem with that at all.

Wow, a running example for <$12K?  Thats a pretty amazing price, whatever the color.  I think I'd want to buy it for parts alone.

I never found a yellow in the tech manual color chart, but maybe 230's and 280's had different color options?  One of those examples says it wasn't original paint though.

Rodd,

Neither of those cars has a yellow dash, so I'd guess neither of them was originally yellow.

I believe there is a photo in the Engelen book of a bright-neon-yellow Pagoda, described as a safey experiment by MB back in the day. I don't have my copy of the book with me here in California to look it up and confirm.
A google search turns up a '63 Sun Yellow 230 SL Pagoda that was offered for sale by Stickel in 2019 (for eur 240K or so). That color is extremely yellow.

Wasn't there someone named "Keesing" a while back, either on these forums or on the old 113 forum, who had a bright yellow 280SL nicknamed Tweetie?

Indeed, "Keesing" had a yellow 280SL that he called "Tweety Bird":

Perhaps it is the same car that was shown by Stickel at one of the Essen meetings:

I believe Achim knows more about the the yellow Stickel car.

Stickel's car was a 230SL.  Perhaps the car that featured in a D-B safety video back in the 60's.

Based on your comment and the lure of some vicarious PAGODA spotting, I watched the first episode….which turned into binge watching the whole series.   You are correct: many great car shots including the featured PAGODA, great music and a trip down memory lane as I am from that era.
BTW: My wife pointed out that the female  star Riley Keough is the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and grand daughter of ELVIS.

I've no idea if its true but I heard once that Elvis had a pagoda, do you suppose his granddaughter ended up with it?  It would be fun to know where that one is.

just watched episode 5 which had a sweet red 190SL, sitting next to a 911whatever.  They were just that character's backup cars to a maserati...and of course another character's mustang still got more screen time, but that has to be because they sold way more cars and everyone knows them (maybe because they cost <1/2 as much?).  Sadly 99% of Amazon viewers never saw any of these cars in their life and have no idea, but clearly some old fart in production knew exactly what to put in the show.  thank you

If you were alive for any part of the 60's or 70's this is a fun show.  If you weren't, I'm sorry, you missed a hot mess in history, but it was anything but boring.

Still hoping to see the pagoda again but that character moved to New York...maybe we see her again, I hope...at least the car please
