Hub Cap Stencils
« on: July 12, 2021, 02:19:35 »
Do any of the Australian members know where the Australian hub cap stencil currently is.  There has been nothing on it and one of our newer Full Members has asked the question.

Apparently nobody knows where any of them are. Also apparently they didn’t actually cost the club anything because they were donated to the club. If they are not found they will not be replaced.

If you absolutely positively think you need them you can buy them from authentic classics for less than the price of a tank of gas.

As one who has worked with professional painters on doing a dozen wheel covers I can tell you they are not necessary. None of the wheel cover painting that I had done by two different body shops used them; they masked them by hand because they are professionals and it didn’t take that long.

I masked mine by hand and it came out ok. But then I am not a professional painter either.

The trouble is that masking by hand does NOT give a true authentic finish and for some that is important.

The trouble is that masking by hand does NOT give a true authentic finish and for some that is important.

Neither is paint used this 21st century. Furthermore if you’re refinishing wheel covers your authenticity and originality is gone.

But I get it; so if an owner is so inclined these “tools” are available, readily and without exorbitant cost.

The point is we as a club don’t have the ability to track hard assets that move around the world… which is exactly why all of them have gone missing.

Here is the string I am familiar with for the North and South American stencils.

It appears that revrevrev should have them.
