Really like to see a good answer to this too. especially, what's the best place to mount the spool. The factory instructions involve cutting the inside cover of the door pillar.

When we fit seat belts we weld in anchor plates in the locations prescribed by Mercedes.

I would go with what the various reputable parts suppliers offer, for example SLS:

The issue is "retractable" vs "regular 3-point". With retractables you have to deal with placing the spool. There is no good place

Actually, there is a perfect location for installing the retractor - under the parcel shelf.

Agree with GM.  This is what I have on my 230.  Looks good, works well.  Very happy.

Do you have to cut the board to bring the belt out?

There were these Kangol inertia seatbelts available while ago on ebay. They are retractable, but come from the time of our cars.  Buckles look exactly the same as the non-retractable we know.

For time correctness freaks it may be an attractive option to search.

Mike - no cutting necessary. Belt slides easily between the outer edge of the removable parcel board and the wall.

I put the retractor under the parcel shelf also. It is a very nice installation and works perfectly. I had the seatbelts rebuilt with new matching straps and the original Kongal hardwear. Very happy with it all.

I have the MB seatbelts that were installed according to the MB tech bulletin. Mike Simon, you should look at this and consider it. It's an official tech bulletin on the subject. Mine look like a factory install.
