Is it possible to remove the bonnet badge without removing the bonnet ? I know the back of the badge has a threaded stud and a locating pin on it but looking under the bonnet it appears these disappear into a box section ?

Ray,

When you open de bonnet, you can reach the little nut which is holding the badge.

or if you have small hands can go through the grille star center and reach up to the small 7mm nut inside with a ratchet on an extension bar.

I had a closer look this weekend through the grill star and cant see any nut visable just this box section. See pic.
Is mine different to others ?

Hi Ray,

Some picture:
•   First open a bit the hood
•   Then go via the grill star
•   And you will find the nut

I am a bit baffled, looking at your picture it would appear that the bolt is in front of the box section ?

My photo is taken with the bonnet shut and if you expand the picture you can see clearly behind and in front of the box section and their appears to be nothing.

I will do as you have done and open the bonnet and have a look next time i,m at the garage and update situation.

I think your screw is about 1cm outside of the picture's top frame, a bit to the left...

My hood is off the car and I can take an easy picture. The "bolt" and nut come out of the hood in front of the box section. Please note that I have a "special custom" nut and bolt coated with "rust-like" appearance, as proper for a Vintage car.
I would guess that someone used a "stick-on" badge on your car during/after a repaint process. Also, the picture in your original post does not show the front center of the box section...

As a fun little fact, at one of the PUBs in Blacklick, Ohio--probably 2011 or so, in walking around the myriad number of cars parked all around Joe Alexander's property, I happened to notice that there was a large number of cars w/o the "bonnet badge" or hood badge--enough to question at that time. Were they horrifically expensive, or unavailable? It was a bit curious as to why so many were missing...

Hi all,
Tilted the bonnet and have found it, sort of. Just the bolt hole though, no bolt, for some reason it must be stuck on.
Now have to figure a way of removing it without damaging the paintwork $:-\$

I had to remove some badging from my motorcycle a while back. Fishing line hooked under the badge and a "sawing" motion cut through the adhesive pad holding it on. Worked like a charm!

The hood badge is expensive. Some people use a 450SL badge and just glue it on.

The 190SL and 113 use the same badge except the threaded pin is opposite position on the 190.

Warming up with an air blower may work, if the fishing line does not.

I found fishing line the best, then some elbow grease to remove remaining glue.

Worked when I ‘de-badged’ my SLK 😁

Silly question, why are you wanting to remove.? 😉

Dental Floss works too. Have taken quite a number of glued emblems off painted surfaces with it.

Thanks all for the fishing line and floss ideas I will give them a try.
I need to remove the existing one because its not a Pagoda badge, its from a newer model, all silvery in colour not like the cream star of the Pagoda badge and it anoys me. I had a Pagoda badge restored and would like to now fit that.
