W111 window switches rebuildable?

I have the mid style power window switches for a ‘68 W111 280SE. These are the newer rocker style but have screw terminals in back for the wire connections. The early ones are very similar except have more of a light switch look instead of the rocker look. It would appear like you can take them apart with some degree of fun. Wondering if anyone has done that or may know of a service that does rebuild these.

yes, but you need to do it in a vacuum chamber. If you dont figure it out, I have some NOS

Wallace, I fix these all the time. Usually they just need cleaned. Removing the pin will allow you to open the switch.  Inside you'll find a small spring and ball, along with the rocker contacts. Clean the dirt out and clean the contacts. During assembly I use a bit of di-electric grease to hold the tiny ball on the end of the spring.

Great! Thanks Joe for your vote of confidence. It is nice having the voice of experience behind you going forward.

What do you use as a replacement pin? These are crimped on each end to prevent it from coming out. I would assume you have to cut that crimp on one end to remove the pin. I was thinking about brass because it is easy to form. Would you use di-electric grease on the internal sliding contacts as well? I used that on the contacts in the neutral switch when I rebuilt that. Haven’t had any issues since.

One last question. How do you test these switches? I have three terminals per switch. The middle terminal on the 4 gang switch are all tied together and would assume is a common and the same as the single switch.

Hi there,

I'm looking for a NOS or operative window switch for the rear window of a 1969 280SE Cab.  It is the older style screw type. Anyone out there who can help?

How many wires does you window motor have? Two or three? I don't have a single but do have a rebuilt 4 gang driver's side switch. If you find a single that needs help, I developed a process to rebuild switches even in the worst condition.

I found this one on Ebay and looks new.
