real axle code
« on: March 09, 2020, 13:21:12 »
forgive me if I did't look hard enough in the Tech Manual, but could not find an answer.

On Data Card: Hinterachse (Rear Axle) what does the code 10790 signify- would this be the code for a specific rear axle ratio?  3.75 4.08?

Hi,
the number in your data card is the serial number of your rear axle, no code. The axle ratio is not on your data card. You find the axle ratio beneath that serial number on your rear axle only, see https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=25111.msg179488#msg179488.

I found my axle code under the section on the data card that says   wenig gewunscht

my axle code (256) is listed right next to (740) folding top fabric, Black

I have no idea what "wenig gewunscht" means.

Looking at various cards on the internet and our site I notice that many cards don't have an axle type listed

Hi,
"wenig gewünscht" means "rarely ordered" and option code "256" means "rear axle with limited slip differential (250 SL/280 SL)".

On the 230 SL only the very first cars had the "3.75" rear axle ratio imprinted on the datacard next to its serial number.
On the car the rear axle ratio is imprinted on the most lower edge, the half-moon-like field on the lower rear edge of the differential if looked at from behind (from the tank side).
For your Euro-113042 it should read "SL  3/75" instead of "SL 4/08".

Hello All, with regards to the Limited Slip Differential Option Code 256 ) on a 113, as part of this was it a standard gearing or did them come with 3:92's .

You could get a limited slip rear axle in any ratio if you asked for it when ordering the car.  Same on a subsequent installation.
