Replacement turn signal switch
« on: December 12, 2019, 00:04:04 »
At PagodaWorld 2019, I recall hearing someone say that a replacement turn signal switch had been impossible to get until recently when a newly-manufactured switch became available from some source.  Does anyone know more to this story, and in particular, who is selling the replacement part?

I purchased one about a year ago from our local dealer. Mine didn’t “hold” on turn; so I purchased one for the future.

The replacement part is for the late 250 / 280 only. I believe there are no replacements for the 230 (yet).
One source I know is:

The old timer site may have 2 aftermarket options. I looked into this about 1.5 years ago. Looks the same as factory original but half the price. They said the had a cheaper option that was due to a minor blemish in the production run. Their sales guy was very helpful. He was happy to communicate on WhatsApp. That old timer site only sells aftermarket reproduction. Many are virtually exact copies.

I purchased one for my 1970 280SL at my local MB dealer. Works perfectly as an NOS item should, but was kind of expensive. Its the entire assembly switch with lever. Be sure to ask for your discount of some sort...

Jep, I bought one about 18 months ago from a local MB Dealership in the UK.
As mentioned above, very expensive.
Happy New Year guys.

New member and not familiar with “old timer site”. In need of a new switch as mine will not return on left turn, and won’t hold on right turn. Can you kindly assist with site reference details.

Tycoon, the basic question is: old type or the new type? I do not see the type of car you have in your signature.

Then it is easier to find, it is the late type.

You can try to fix it as advised in the previous post. For the US/Canada options are, I think:
1. Ebay
2. Bud's Benz
3. Authentic Classic
4. Mercedes dealer (or Classic Center), PN A 002 545 29 24 - not the most expensive option, as one might think; this is where I would buy
5. This forum perhaps in Wanted to Buy

Suppliers in Europe, e.g. Niemoeller also have it. Th elate type is not difficult to spot. The question is the price...

Yves,
Thank you for the detailed instruction and photos. Quite informative for the group. I didn’t think I would have to go back to Medical schools to fix this switch! Seems quit intense.....I’ll have to look for an easy replacement via the sites provided by some other members. I have no time, as I’m locked down with isolation during these trying times..... 🧐
