How do you remove the column shifter on a W111?
« on: April 12, 2019, 01:55:01 »
I'm trying to remove the column shift on a 250SE? The shaft is held in place by a chrome nut with flats. It seems that it should be turned to loosen it. Then you can remove it and the chrome shifter.

But when you turn it, it spins.

Any ideas??

It has a very fine thread so there will be many turns before it comes out.

Yes, and under the chrome collar nut is supposed to be a plastic bushing around the chrome shifter ball. The bushing disintegrates with age and may be missing all together.
