Technical Manual open for business...
« on: November 15, 2008, 11:10:22 »
Dear all,

The "Technical Manual" is open for business again. Temporarily shut down because of the system transfer, it is now fully operational. Most sections are accessible to everyone, the Restricted section or editing is open to Full Members only. Once you have logged in here on the site, there is no need to log-in on the Wiki again (unless your cookies are screwed up, which can happen).

This is an invite to all Full Members to help getting some of the excellent information in your heads, garages, or from this site into the Technical Manual. I'll be spending more time on it again now as well, now the system transfer is behind me.

Remember, the idea is to create a printed book as soon as the level of information and structure in the Technical Manual is sufficient. That does require your collaboration! So I look forward to your contributions.

Peter

At the http://www.sl113.org/index.php/FAQ.html  (Frequently Asked Questions) we've added some content on the Technical Manual, how a Wiki works (http://www.sl113.org/index.php/FAQ/items/whatos-wiki.html), with an entertaining video, and what roles and functions we need help with in putting the Technical Manual together.

Have a look here: http://www.sl113.org/index.php/FAQ/items/how-can-i-help.html

Peter, editing in WIKI does not appear to work with Firefox.  It does work in IE.

How do I add a picture that is not linked to my third party host?  I added one that way in the sandbox, http://sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.WikiSandbox  but for all the reasons you mentioned to me before, it could disappear.  How do I make it more permanent for WIKI?

John,

I've just editited the Wiki in FireFox under Linux. In the sandbox, check the history. It works perfectly.

Uploading pictures in the Wiki is a completely different process than in the forum. It is explained here: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.News#Images

and in the section here: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=PmWiki.Uploads.

In Windows XP with FireFox, I can log in, but still get a blank page.  IE works.

John,

once you've logged in on the Forum there should be no need to log in again on the Wiki. If this happens, you have an obsolete Cookie that is messing you up.

Delete all cookies for www.sl113.org and log in again, and then go to the Wiki. You should then be allright.

Check the FireFox help files how you clear that cookie. That particular cookie is clearly not there in IE.
