I used the search function, which by the way, is EXCELLENT in this new format, and I couldn't find what I was looking for.

What I need is a high resolution picture of both sides of the wheel changing tag that hangs in the trunk. I also need the dimensions. I assume my 250 SL had one originally, or did it not?

I can scan the one I have, but it will not be until the weekend or early next week. I am traveling this week. If no one else comes up with the information in the mean time. I believe it does have the date stamped on it, I also think it was a generic tag for MB and not specific to the 113.

If that's the one in the 250 SL, then yes. However, a clean reproduction on both sides and mention of the proper dimensions is what I'm looking for. I'm trying to replicate the tag, unless there is a source for it.

New ones are made and sold by Bob Geco. Why don't you just buy one from him?

Thanks, now I know what I'm looking for exactly. I was hoping for a scan that could then be printed on the proper size card stock. Seems Bob Geco might be the best route to go.

I purchased a similar tag and other decals from Bob Geco. His quality is excellent! He has several new ones including a fuse box card and the tire pressure decal that is on the fuel filler door for a 111. I think the same one fits on the 113 but not sure.

On my '68 111 M130 engine, I had a different original valve cover decal that was smaller than the current one that is produced. Mine was also mounted on the chain sproket hump in front and positioned vertically. The others are postioned lower on the drivers side of the valve cover and are horizontal. Bob now has the one like mine available.

Contact him because he has a lot of decals for the 113 and they are high quality.

That's not the tag he wants. That's the alloy wheel hang tag.

I found this discussion very intresting. Since I am in the business of reproducing some of these (engineering Tags) I have some technical questions I hope can be answered.

1) the alloy wheel tire hanging instruction tag. what chassie number for the 280SL was this supplied on and what year?

2) do any owners have this tag that they can send me a high resolution picture of back and front with part number startinng with the letters KD.

3) what are the demensions of the card are they different than that of the 280SL with steel wheels . the tag I have is 20 MM length by 11/1/2 MM wide.

4) I am also looking for an orginal 250SL hanging tire instruction tag. My new partner has an obilterated one so we can not exsamine it to see what the demensions are and any other differences.

I also hear your discontent with the prices of the 280SL hanging tags I have left in stock. I am trying to fine another vendor who will do the same high quality at at lesser price. since my previous partner was responsible for the the tire change instruction tag that I have two left of I have no idea who he used to make them up and at what cost.

Cleaned it up (the scan) a bit on a photo editing program. Printed the two sides per original sizing on a bit heavier stock white printing paper. Trimmed the edges. Got some stickum laminate (OfficeMax) and covered both sides, trimmed edges. Went to shoe store and had eyelet installed. Total cost, $5 or so.

Be careful about following the instructions on the card uncritically!

The English version can be read to mean that you should remove the bolts before jacking up the car.

In section 5, the German word "losen" has been translated to "unscrew".
It ought to have said "loosen" which is the better translation of the German word.

The manufacturing or should I saw repainting A Devinne is not difficult if you can live with a less than original copy . However when you get down to the nitty gritty of re manufacturing these engineering tags it takes more than a printer scanner and a trip to office max to laminate it . It takes measurements from the original ,samples of material researching part numbers and Vin codes. Taking pictures with special macro lens to put it into full frame one to one duplication. Sampling Tex styles. An awfully lot just to make a proper tag. Been their done that.

Has any one seen the documentary of restoring the ceiling of the Chistine chapel in Rome. This documentary done by PBS? it took ten year and a special solution applied by Japanese rice paper to the ceiling to remove the soot that had build up on the ceiling covering the priceless painting . I gathered from this an understanding for restoring items. Be it a car or a tag that once adorned an air box in an engine bay.

I just completed the engineering tags for the tire pressure decal for a 1971 280SE/9 3.5. it took a team of professionals that could print money seven times to get it right and a heavy cost at that. That is the price you pay for prefection these days.
I wish there was a less expensive Way, there is not.
not that simple.
