Off Topic: How stupid am I? Bought a Porsche
« on: November 09, 2008, 13:47:22 »
I just went and bought an old Porsche, sight unseen. Not the best I could afford, in need of some, er, work.

Give or take a month, we think it's the same age as my wife and is a swb 911T. [:p]

James,

I know it isn't a Pagoda, and it isn't a VW, BUT...I think you can pull the engine out of that in about an hour...lots of Porsche people around to help you, they are as friendly a bunch as we are, good clubs; lots of websites.  Plenty of parts about, too.  Nice project.

NB.  Paint and chrome still expensive.

If the seller threw in the long ladder attached to side of the car, you might have got a good deal. Or is that what's keeping the chassis together?

Oh boy, I see alot of rust.  I own an 83SC 911...I suggest you join us at the Rennlist Discussion forum.  In the US, Pelican has alot of parts.  Like all old cars, nothing is cheap.
Congrats.

You have a good picture. The other 19 I have are of the "worst bits". Including the torsion tube being rusted through.

If the mods don't mind, I'll post very occasional updates. Although nothing is likely to happen for 6 months at the very least.

Tosh,
Is this for restoration or just a bodge-up?

Full restoration!

You've met the wife. She wouldn't drive a bodge-up! It was not her idea (I found it on DDK ond one of the members over there will restore it)  but I had talked myself out of buying it.  As we all know, it's NOT a sensible proposition. She kept saying "buy it". So as not to upset the wife.... ::)

According to the Porsche classic centre, delivered to Porsche GB Nov 13th 1967, so 41 years old this week.  I'd guess a Jan 1 registration
