Kevin, you're correct about the later cars, but not on one as early as Michael's. (You'd think they would've made them all match from Day One, but they didn't!)

Wow. I wonder when THAT change actually took place. My car was built in October 1966. Had to be close. Mine only appears newer because I opted for the multiloop carpet when I did the interior over.

According to our friend Achim, the change occurred at 012467. At that point, the window crank inserts, ashtray lid and passenger door grab handle all matched the rest of the interior.

Dear Michael,

Agree to Doug ...
Extremely nice car, indeed!
Please, what's your serial no., is it before 012466? If not, I'd be confused ...
I even start to like the exterior's paint code (181) ... I am afraid I have to  .
BTW, just curious, ist it 181G or 181H?

Great car!

Best,
Achim

Thanks!

Well... Here is a wrench thrown into the works... Last six serial digits are 014851...

I don't have the car here so you will have to wait for me to get close enough to get you the extended paint code.

I explicitly recall a photo from 1966 of the owner in the captains seat showing the black ashtray lid. How about that? And my passenger door grab handle and crank knobs are black as well!

Oh - thank you Kevin! - for your PM help. Now I understand fully that my car is an early 1966 (built in 1965) where as I thought it was a late chassis.

Thank you again.

Very nice indeed.

The tire card is generic for the years, and they do come up on ebay from time to time. I do not know if they have been reproduced.

BTW, has anybody ever seen a 113 with 181G instead of H?

I see that Michael's beautiful 230 SL sold at Gooding over the weekend for $74,250.  The key fob must have clinched the sale!

Beautiful car! I have the identical 181 Light Beige and 408 Havana on my data card. The interior is cognac leather though. The previous owner painted the hard top and wheel covers 181. I am going to have it restored to the original color scheme in the spring. I like the Havana color. I imagine your car looks stunning with the hardtop on.

Nice to see that price but no plans to sell mine! Having too much fun driving it. I keep my fob in a ziplock bag and stored away with all my other MB stuff now that I know how much it is worth:-) Thanks John.
