Frigiking A/C - How many speeds?
« on: August 30, 2008, 09:48:45 »
Running my A/C yesterday, I noticed that I only have two fan speeds: Slow and medium. The fan speed switch - the one on the left side - has three positions: Hi - Med - Lo. But the actual speed of the blower is the same on the "Hi" setting as on the "Med" setting. I determined that, by switching the ignition to the intermediate position and running the fan without starting the engine. I can hear a distinct difference in fan speed between "Med" and "Lo". However, there is no difference between "Med" and "Hi". Please check your A/C and tell me if you have three speeds. Thanks!

I don't know if it helps you but my Kuhlmeister has three speeds, there is a big difference between med and hi.  And right now it is mainly on hi all the time.

Thank you guys! It was the switch. It took cleaning up the contact points. Now I have three speeds and the hi speed is very satisfactory. Thank you very much. Thinking about it at night: When I was involved in designing switches, we found that if the mechanism creates a little wiping action on the contact surfaces, the switch lasts much longer. Many switches just open & close without some sideways movement, as is the case with this one. Stuff builds up on the contact surface and the electrical conductivity is compromised.
