Euro headlights: How to attach chrome ring?
« on: June 13, 2008, 23:18:51 »
Hi everyone,

just tried fitting on the new euro lights I ordered.
They really make the car look a lot classier, in my opinion.

I actually managed to wire them properly, and attach them to the car,
so I thought the hardest part is over, but I couldn't get the chrome rings to fit!
Any suggestions?

If I put the clip on top of the "clip holder", the ring is too far up to turn the
screw at the bottom of the ring.
If I simply put the ring from the front, the height is correct,
but it won't go all the way back.

Any tricks out there?
Didn't want to apply too much force on the ring...

Thanks!

Konstantin/Portland OR

Hello Konstantin,

My chrome rings were very slightly "bowed out" on the sides, allowing me to pull down on the ring to fit the lower screw into the hole.  I used my nails and pulled the ring at the top of the lower edge. You could also, "carefully", use a small screw driver to wedge the ring lower.  Be very careful that you dont bend the top small clip.  It could break off with too much force.

In general, when I first installed my Euros, they didnt fit well either.  With my recent body work, they now fit nicely.

Good luck,
Bob  :)

Hi Konstantin,

From your photograph it looks as though the rubber backing for the light unit is either missing or not seating properly. The rubber should show between the edges of the unit and the bodywork with the chrome bezel pushing slightly into the rubber at the top when you pull it down to seat in its groove. Your light unit looks too close to the bodywork at the top to allow the bezel to seat properly. Try removing the light unit and fitting the bezel off the vehicle to see how it fits.

From the photo, I don't think you have your headlight assembly fitted to the body correctly.  Sticks out too far?

Wasn't there something about having to make a notch on the USA chrome ring so that it fit on the Euro headlight unit?

There should be 2 seals, one between the glass and the headlight unit body and the other between the whole headlight unit and the car body.

Konstantin, I suggest you search for the information.
Try the Manual.
Then look through the archives then if you don't find the info try looking at the Pagoda113.com site then think about going to the old yahoo group and looking there.
The information is available somewhere.

Maybe someone like Naj knows

As others have mentioned below, you're missing "Seal, Headlight Assembly to Body" part number 000 826 62 80 (around $40 each).
