230 sl steering wheel variation
« on: June 13, 2008, 10:40:58 »
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the early 230sl steering wheel which is shown in the parts book for cars with vin ending in 010611 and below and the later version for later 230sl's and early 250sl's. I have seen both at the dealer and they had different part numbers but they looked identical. I need a later ivory wheel but only the early ones are available at this time. Thank you for any assistance.

Unfortunately that page of information did not help, I spoke to a sales rep at Millers today and he told me that the shaft is different on the pre 10611 cars, although I measured both wheels and the are the same dimension internally and the teeth are the same as they both fit on an early shaft I had on a junked early style 230SL steering column.

See attached photo and parts listing.

Puzzling?
