Front Wheel Well Splash Panel Color?
« on: April 10, 2008, 04:25:27 »
Hello All!

What is the current recommendation on what color the front wheel well splash guards should be?  I am referring to the removable panels...

I was planning on have them painted black, but as I read through our forum, there seems to be a mix of answers...  some say body color, others black...

What is the current thinking on what these were when the car left the factory?

Thanks :) !

Bob,

I take it you mean the piece that is inside up near the top of the wheel well? I am not at home, so I can't go out and look exactly. Mine are not body color, but not really black either. More of grey/black. I do not believe they should be body color.

Bob,

I've seen it both ways, so I don't think there's a right or wrong answer. (Actually, there is one way that's wrong. If you do side in black and one in body color, that would be wrong...)

Thanks Douglas and Johnny,

Good to know that either option is good.

What color are the existing ones?  I know that this is a different car but since Jonny mentioned a black/grey I can recall that on my 73 220D they are painted anthracite grey and the car is white.

I hope this will help.  If you go to Brian Peters website www.MotoringInvestments.com click on Mercedes, and look for the Blue Pagoda that was listed for $105,000.  When you go through the detailed photos, you will see what he did.  I know they went back later to paint the heavy shield on the underside of the trans that is supposed to match the body color.  Also, take a look at the 190SL restoration photos where he explains how they purposely let the paint overspray along the edges where it meets the underbody.  I see similarities with the blue Pagoda.
