Author Topic: Back yard buddy lift just clear (Read 15613 times)

Well one lift in. We had to juggle it into position to clear the garage door opener and ceiling. It just clears so I can squeeze the Ford Mustang LX under the 280SL. Now I have to learn how to not put the 280SL through the ceiling.

Now I can work under my cars while rolling around on my Snap-on stool, still going to be a close call.

A lift in a garage is a wonderful thing. I built a second garage for my hobby and made sure I could get a two post lift in. Ceiling height is 14 feet at the highest point. I like the two post because of the ability to do suspension work and there's less hardware around. However, the four post has adapters to allow for raising the suspension while the car is in the air. With today's Chinese and Korean lifts, cost is not as big an issue. For home use they are more than ample. I bought mine, a 9000lb, from www.americanautomotiveequipment.com for $2500 delivered AND installed. Backyard Buddy makes a very nice lift. Not inexpensive. There are quite a few brands available.

Now that's a garage! Looks like the only things missing are a computer, large screen TV, and a leather recliner...

If I had a garage like yours, I think I would live in it. Between playing with the cars (toys), would have to sit back and just stare at them...

I considered a two post lift with swing out arms. however I needed the storage space to park four automobiles. Back Yard buddy is a USA built with Safey in mine. The construction of their four post lifts are built with perfessional quality in mine. They are not inexpensive like off shore brands. The cost with all the accessories for two 6000 lifts is the cost of a good paint job for my 280SL once you include shipping and installation.

I have a very decated and loving wife who understands my passion for my cars. I was very fortunate to be able to do this. She has helped me lay out the plans. I will post more pictures as things come together. I also plan on later having a Pagoda day at my home.

Bob, the Backyard Buddy is a very nice lift. My buddy has one... www.memory-motors.com Mohawk is another good brand and has a tire adapter for their two post to lift by the suspension. Look forward to seeing your pictures.

Thanks for the nice compliments. I really like the garage. Only drawback is winter climate and not being able to use it as freely. That's what the back room in the garage is for in addition to the compressor.

I have had a BackYard Buddy lift for about 4 years now, and could not be more pleased with it. I have an 11 foot ceiling height, and can fit the SL, and my SLK (170) under it. I had to get the garage door track modified, and two sections added to the garage door to make it clear. The garage door lift mechanism is mounted to the ceiling, with the track about 4 or 5 inches from the ceiling. Another option is to use a side lifting garage door, as you might find in a commercial garage, but the folks that did my door modifications, did not have one that would work in a residential setting (it did not have the safeguard electric eye to prevent activitation with something/someone in the way.)

I lose an inside wall but not ceiling height

Once I get the Mother-in-law installed above the garage, I will know exatly what I have to play with height-wise. Not enough for a lift, is my guess....

Jealous of some of the garages here though. Rooms as well as contents!
