glove box interior color

I had the interior of my 1966 230SL changed from black to parchment.  It has parchment leather seats, door panels, dash plus parchment loop carpet.  The inside leather in the glove box is original, color black.  Should this be the same as my interior color or are all glove boxes black inside?
Same for the leather that surrounds my steering column.  I have a new ivory steering wheel but the column is still black leather.  Should this be dyed to match the parchment interior?

Yes, the inside of the glovebox should be dyed to match the rest of the interior. It should be consistent throughout.

The steering wheel center pad should match the steering wheel itself, so it should be ivory like your wheel.

Hello Doug,

I think Jack is referring to the lining which surrounds the upper quarter part of the steering "column", not the horn pad itself.

This steering column surround is not leather but some sort of plastic lining which is very similar to the original material of the sun visors.
This has been used on all Pagodas until 250 SL serial 002979 (early style column) and is always supposed to be black (or very dark grey).

Okay, I understand now. Here's a photo of an interior that shows that black "collar" around the steering column of a car with a red interior:

But that's a later style wheel.  I believe he's referring to the earlier 230 SL style, like my 250 SL.  Mine is black, but my interior is caviar, so I can't know for certain if black was a one size fits all.

Correct - my 230sl has the older steering wheel (as seen on early 60's MB's versus the later models as in Doug's picture).  So John's picture shows the column the color of the underdash cover, although I did read some thread that some pagodas did not have undercovers and mine does not.  My column is a hard "plastic" black material with slight grain to it.  So I think I'll keep it that way.

My steering column is exactly like John's. However, I have a hole where he has a rubber plug! Now I have to add another "missing item" to the list!

What color is your interior?  And, what color is the knee bolster?

The originality and correctness that Vince maintained on this car is remarkable.  Feel free (anyone) to ask me to look on the car for areas you may be curious about.  I can't be certain of complete correctness, but would bet on it.  The car is more representative of 230 SLs than 280 SLs.

My interior code is 115 -- MB Tex 2300 -- aka Dark Blue. The knee bolster (nice name by the way) is a very dark gray I'd say. Looks much like yours I think.

BTW did/do late 250ies/280ies have this kind of collar anyway?
