Can some one send me a picture of what color Caviar looks like? I have no color samples of this interior and do not know if it was availible in only leather or MBZ tex? What is the code number for Cavia?
How long was it avaible  for because my early 1967 interior MBZ tex sample dealer sheet does not mention it!!

This may be a good subject to add to the subject in the manual. under :

Caviar is #2100 of interior color code #116.  My car is an early 1967 tex interior.  Pictures are of original interior, has not been touched.  Most people would call it black, but as you can see, it really does look like caviar (Beluga anyway).

You can see all the pictures of the car here.http://www.flickr.com/photos/8292359@N06/sets/721573240571101/show/

Mr. Lewenauer:
You have a very good talent with photography and excellant subject matter to shoot with. I enjoyed your photos on Flicker and  book marked your site. The Caviar is a mixture of black and grey, more a grey. Very beautifull.
Did you restore your 250SL? it  seems too perfect to be orginal. however I can not think of a better exsample I have seen in all my years involved with Pagodas that is as strickingly beautifull as your car.
Thank you for sharing thoses pictureswith me.

Thanks for the compliments Bob.  Actually, I would say the caviar reads more black than grey.  If you look at the pictures that have the leather cover on the steering wheel, the cover is an aftermarket cover in black (wheelskins).  I doubt anyone would think it's different from the interior without close inspection.

The interior of the car is 100% original except for the caviar carpet on the door sills, which was replaced with an outstanding reproduction in wool (like the original).  The car has been magnificently maintained by its second owner who bought it in '71 with 29k miles on it.  At 95k miles in '75 he repainted the car in it's original Herberts DB 568 signal red, got the exact paint the factory used.  Car was sanded down, not stripped.  Also replaced the soft top. So, the paint and soft top are 32 years old.  In '89 he rebuilt the engine with 117k miles on it and at that time replated many of the engine components all the while strictly adhering to factory original except for the polished valve cover, right down to the inspection dots.  It now has 150k miles.  Since then, he's maintained and cleaned the car as he tended to various areas.  So, the car has never been officially restored, just impeccably maintained, repainted once...original interior and chrome.  I feel lucky to own it, bought it a little over a month ago.  Check out the 190 SL and 356 Porsche on my flickr site too.

My data card says caviar too.  That's what it looks like.  Door skins and all.  If you replace with black you hardly notice a difference.  It just looks like black faded out just a bit by sun.
In bright sun it looked dirty or dusty.  In darkness it looked black.
