Borrani wire wheels on Pagoda ??
« on: August 08, 2003, 00:32:28 »
Here's a photo of a good clean set of Borrani wire wheels (you know, the standard set-up for classic Ferrari's) that the seller (in Holland) claims were manufactured for Pagodas and 107's (could they even be the same?). I never heard of Borrani's on a Pagoda - could it be the seller is mistaken? He's asking some $1,100:

Yeah I've seen them before. I think SLtech had a set for sale for a while with a photo on their website (I THINK it was SLTech).

Anyway they look good on the Italians but I wouldn't like them on either SL, just not my cup of tea !  But then my taste is somewhat impure as I like the alloy wheels with the narrow whitewalls on a 230 Euro !   ;)

Agree 50% with Ben:

I don't like wire wheels in a Pagoda either (even 300 SL Gullwing and Roadster -9 years older than the W113- had already left these kind of wheels, so it doesn´t sound logical to recover them for a Pagoda)...

But I don't like the alloy wheels -factory option for latest 280 SL- in a W113 (for me they are wheels from the '70 in a car from the '60). I always prefer it with the painted hubcaps (the early two-pieces hubcaps if possible). I think the 280 SL's alloy wheels (designed much later than the Pagoda) fit better with the R107... but as always, it's a matter of personal tastes... and for this reason MB offered the car in so many colors!  :)

I must say, the only wheels I've seen that I like more than the steel's (especially with the old style small hubcaps and the wheels painted body color) are the minilite style 8 spoke wheels...they just look sharp with the lines of the pagode.

my opinion only, I don't mind if you disagree.
