Only obsessive compulsive pagoda people would notice the millisecond of a Pagoda pulling up in front of the Greek casino in the Bond flick "For Your Eyes Only".  I need to get a life!

Morgan Freeman driving a pagoda in Batman Begins (It is for 2 seconds in the night)

Peter, you do not need a new life. I think you just got one.

A couple months ago I saw an odd little flick entitled, "The Door In the Floor" starring Beau Bridges and Kim Bassinger.  She drives a green 280 that the producers tried to make look dowdy.  You get to see more of Kim Bassinger's body than the body of the car but it's almost as attractive.  :D

You must watch the 70's hit "Breaking Away".  Pagoda plays a prominent part.   Filmed at Indiana University...where I live half the week.   I wonder if the locals associate me with the bad guy who drove the pagoda and wears Lacoste shirts...like me...  Oh well, no one's beat me up yet...

I can't remember the name of the movie, but I saw this movie a long time ago with Richard Gere playing the lead character: where in the end of the movie he crashes a really nice silver 280 sl pagoda...what a loss..

Mark,

We discussed that movie at length here:

http://sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=2283

It's called "Intersection." I always thought it woudl've been a better ending if the doctor informed the next-of-kin about Gere's accident, then gently inquired about whether they would consider selling the wreck to him for parts.....

There are two older movies where a pagoda car was quite visible.  In the sixties, when the pagoda first appeared, a movie starring Audrey Hepburn and Richard Burton (I think) call 'One For The Road' featured a white 230 SL.  In 1979, a movie with Bo Derek, Julie Andrews and Dudley Moore call '10' had a 280 SL that was driven by Julie Andrews.

I too try to spot old cars in movies and actually watch old films just to see old cars.  Sam

The main character in the "Highlander" television series drove a pagoda. Every production year of the series was filmed half in the US and the other half in Europe. The pagoda was featured in the episodes filmed in Europe.

I thought we had made a "sticky" for movie sightings, but I cant find the thread now !

Anyway in the current "Starsky & Hutch" film a Pagoda appears, white with dark roof, just as the "baddie" played by Vince Vaughn tries to escape in his grey W108. He pulls onto the road with the Torino in persuit and we catch a glimpse of the tail of the W113 !

In "Hopscotch" Glenda Jackson drives a red/black SL around Salzburg.  Walther Matheau is the male lead playing a disgruntled CIA employee.

"Two for the Road" starred Albert Finney and Audrey Hepburn.  The movie covered various eras of their romance and marriage.  Finney plays a London based architect with a wealthy client on the Cote d'Azur.  They drive a rhd 230SL through France in part of the film. Finney also drove an MG TC, D or F which eventually catches on fire and ends up in a pond in France. A great film.

It was a TD.  All the parts falling off that car were of the finest British craftsmanship!

The 1971 TV series "The Persuaders" starring Tony Curtis and Roger Moore features several shots of pagodas, heckflosses, and other MBs of the late sixties, scattered over the entire series. The main characters themselves drove nice cars -- Tony Curtis in a red Ferrari Dino 246GT and Roger Moore in an orange Aston Martin DBS. Would be nice to have such a sweet lifestyle...

In the movie "Life or Something Like It," Angelina Jolie drives a silver w113.  Again, nice car in a bad movie.

I stumbled upon a flattering video on the w113SL.
Unlike the movies, this one focused on the car.

scroll down to the file "Top_Gear_Mercedes_SL_hi.wmv" (last modified 07-Nov-2004 01:29, size  30.4M)

You might want to save the file first to your hard drive instead of streaming it off the web.

glennard - Sophia Loren!  I like the Pagoda, but there is a limit!  BTW, it was Signal Red 230SL - RHD.  Worth watching not only because the Pagoda gets a lot of time on screen, but because it is a good movie.  I've got a VHS copy.

Haha, another movie with the pagoda in it.

Anyway, I just bought "Two for the Road" and "The Door In the Floor" last week from Amazon.   I'll be watching them this long weekend.

I saw the trailer for "Breaking Away" and it seemed interesting so I bought a dvd on ebay too.

This is crazy.  Hopefully the movies are good so I wouldn't feel bad buying all these "pagoda" movies.

Joel, I just bought a DVR - DVD recorder yesterday.  I'll see if I can put together a dvd with the pagoda spots.  But wouldn't you rather watch the whole movie?

I will not vouch for how complete the listing is, but check out www.imcdb.org. You can search by make, model, contains, equals to. etc. Very cool indeed. There was a single page article about this site in the October 06 issue of Hemmings.
