Engine Problems + Excessive Wear on Rockers = OIL!

I agree but a higher ZDDP content than 1000 gives you not more safety and 1000 is OK for catalysator emission controlled cars. What is right that you never should use an oil for cars with particle filters like most cureent cars with gasoline and diesel engines are equipped with. But this oils have other recommendations. Mercedes for example has for those cars 229.51 not 229.5. And I did not understand why so much people do not use the advantages of lubricants with lower cold viscosity like 5W or 10W and rely on 20W. The lubrication on cold start is much better with a 10W instead of 20W. But decide as you want.

In addition to the question of philosophy, it is also a question of the technical approach.

One group of users prefers old formulations with mineral base oils of group II or II, which are highly enriched with additives for a safe operation over the lifetime.

The other group (to which I belong) prefers high-quality Class IV base oils based on PAO with less additives. While the Group II and III oils with high amount of additives wear out faster, the high-quality base oils remain stable for longer life and retain their properties for a longer time. A typical sign of a high-quality base oil is a viscosity idex of about 180.

I rebuilt my engine 20 years and 25,000 miles ago.  I was a big proponent of Mobil 1, 15w-50.  About two years ago, I noticed my main seals starting to seep.  As an experiment, at the last oil change, I switched to the Liqui-Moly dino oil and the leaks have disappeared.  Perhaps it's a coincidence but I just changed the oil again before driving 1200 miles to PagodaFest and back and still no oil leaks.

I’m at the same age engine wise. If my seals start leaking maybe time to switch to Liqui Moly Dino Oil…
