Removal of intake manifold

Hello everybody and thanks for a life saving forum! I had so much help so far in my project from this site.

I am renovating my -65 230Sl and is about to get my car painted. I dont want to take the engine out but is trying to get enough things in the engine bay removed to be able to paint as much as possible on the sides. I would like to remove the intake manifold but cannot find any good instructions for this. My car is lefthand drive and wonder if this is a difficult job and if can someone point me in the right direction?

Not difficult, just need the right tools to get to the bolts and nuts holding the intake on.
Grab a flashlight and look in the area and you will see the connections needed to remove.

Ok, that sounds good! I heard people who needed to remove or losen both the exhaust manifold and losen and move/lift the engine to be able to take it out. But these where righthand drive cars, is it easier on a lefthand car?
What tools do you consider being the right ones?

Yes it’s a different story on a RHD car.

Pretty much in order to remove the inlet manifold, you need to remove the brake booster and in order to remove the brake booster, you need to remove the inlet manifold.

It’s a win win situation.

Just so you know, it will also loosen your exhaust manifold as it is held on the same studs. I would recommend fitting a new gasket and nuts.

My brakebooster is on the opposite side of the inlet manifold so that will not an issue. So on my car it will just be removing the bolts for inlet/exaust manifold and thats it? Nothing else that can became an issue?
Its my first renovation in enginebay so I am kind of new to this.

Remove the air cleaner top and the intake hose. Remove any other linkage supports or hoses in your way. Remove the heat deflector shield under the intake and the nuts holding the intake manifold at the head will be visible. I like to use 3/8" extensions with a 14mm swivel socket and ratchet handle. Wobble style extensions can also be helpful. The metal air line going from the WRD to the bottom of the Cold start valve (CSV) must also be unfastened along with the metal fuel line going to the CSV.
