Pertronix help needed
« on: September 07, 2025, 01:17:45 »
Am installing Pertronix 1863 into 1970 280SL w/transistorized ignition.  Have decided to not use transistor, going with conventional installation,  Have 12.5V+ at power side of unit under ignition, 10.6 while cranking, but 0 V from coil to dist.  Did bench test on Pertonix unit, checked dist. ground, new red coil & matching ballast resistor for 3 ohms. Black wire to coil negative.
 Any suggestions?

Thanks, George L.

Tony just went through this install and sorted it out with the help of Pertronix tech support.

I had read this previously and initially hooked red to inlet of .6 ohm, but then had voltage of only 2.5 volts at ignition (which is spec per BBB), then followed Pertronix add'l advice and moved red power connection to input side of .4 ohm which gave me 12.5 volts @ ignition but still no fire from coil (as confirmed by use of timing light).
