Turn signal multi-switch 12-point connector
« on: August 12, 2025, 13:49:44 »
An original 12-point connector block for the turn signal switch will have an intricate wire loom inside of it.  This connector block is mounted on a black bracket under the dash next to the steering column, between another connector and a relay.

Open the connector and you'll find that the factory used very thin cotton string to tie these wires together.  I found this interesting, that they felt the need to go to this detail.  I can't imagine replicating that work.

Before the invention of cable ties, or zip ties, most wiring looms used a waxed cotton or twine to lace the looms together, most are a work of art, some companies still practice it for authenticity.  I came across miles of the stuff when i was an engineer.  Be interesting to see if it was still used on the later cars into the 70's

Nice links.  What precise, yet tedious manual labor.  Not a job for me!!

The lacing orients each wire and it's respective pin in the proper order so that when the harness is fished through a narrow channel, such as the steering column, they will all line up correctly when it comes time to place the pins and assemble the connector. So leave the lacing intact!

from experience of waaay over hundred (stapped counting) Indicator stalks meanwhile I have repaired this nice detail was only on 230 big 12pin connecotors... no more on later smaller 250/280...
One of many details in my opinion why 230s are more valuable cars than later 280

I've just added this detail to the tech manual, sorry Rod, only half of your face was in the picture you posted, so we now know what half of you looks like

Peter's recent changes mean that when you edit a page, the subject of the change is now automatically added to the index at the top of the page, makes it very easy to search, thanks Peter

LOL!  That's plenty!  You don't need to suffer any more than that!   ;)
