Is there any sources for a rebuilt 4 speed gear box for a 230 sl in U.S. or rebuild my gear box?

Seamus,

Contact Satish Tummala at Motorwerks in Commerce Township (downstate): https://www.motorwerksgroup.com

They do so much work on many older MB, BMW and others, they probably have a source for you.

You can also try Sun Valley Transmissions in Southern California.  They seem to specialize in Mercedes, and I've seen a lot of good comments about them on the board (search Sun Valley transmission to find some posts).

Sun Valley Transmissions mainly rebuild automactic's. Try Buds Benz, they are capable and have done plenty. Good Luck ;)
