280SL Cylinder head
« on: April 20, 2025, 18:46:48 »
Hi all, I have been told this is a 280sl cylinder head but the casting number does not match up to what the tec manual say it should be. Can any one who has greater knowledge than me say what car/engine this is from, Thanks

Hey Dave, quite sure that is for a W123 car based on p/n.

Hi Jackson, good to hear from you. Thanks. The chap was saying that it was for a 280SL but the casting number did not add up.

There are other 280SLs, which are not W113s. This head, however, is for neither. It doesn't seem to have any holes for fuel injectors, thus being a head for a carburetor motor. All casting numbers for heads for the W113SL begin with 130.

Thanks all, he was saying it was from a w113. I guess he was trying it on, or just did not know.

The head and the rocker cover do not belong together.
The head is from an M123 engine which had twin solex carbs; a real pain to set up. Not many of those about now.

The chain gallery on the distributor side of the engine is not wide enough for a Mechanical injection pump arrangement. Probably a carbureted engine or an electronic fuel injection head used in the early 70's.
