Group Firewall Pad - 12 years later?
« on: April 01, 2025, 13:11:07 »
Back when we did the Group Firewall Pad project (thank you to all those who actually did the work), I bought two sets for the two cars that I had remaining.  Now 12 years later I'm getting ready to install the first one of them and am wondering how installation went for those who bought them, how they have held up, and any other advice before I dive into this?

Thanks in advance..

With this or any similar material, I'd think you want it hot and soft...so laying it out in the hot sun on a summer day, or using a heat gun to soften things a bit would probably be in order...

Thanks.  That all sounds reasonable.  I'm still hoping to get feedback from those who installed them.  I'm not sure how many sets were made, but I would guess there are dozens installed.  How did the peel and stick hold up between the under pad and top pad??  Did you cut the under pad back by an inch or so, and at least some factory pads were?  What adhesive did you use, and has it held up over time and heat cycles?  Any suggestions on installation?

Mine is delaminating in places, but my alternatives are limited as it’s RHD

Thanks.  Is the material itself coming apart, or the adhesive that bonds the inner pad to the outer pad?  Or the adhesive that bonds the everything to the firewall?

It’s the pad itself. The bond to the firewall is fine but there’s some delam of the pad in a couple of spots

Have you checked out this video?

I’ve never installed a firewall pad but this video appears to be helpful.  It gives what I would guess are worthwhile suggestions.
