We use paypal for invoicing but you don't have to have a paypal account.  Once it goes to the paypal page, click the button under the login button that says Pay with Debit or Credit card.

Hi all, I'm in the same situation ... Paypal is no more compatible with my bank. It's not a problem with the account, it's just that paypal can not recognise my credit card. Is there another way to renew my full membership ?
"Vérifiez votre compte auprès de l'émetteur de votre carte avant de réessayer cette carte." ("Check your account with your card issuer before trying this card again.") ... my card is valid on all other sites ... exept Paypal !
Thank in advance,
Regards

Have you tried a different credit card? Have you called your bank?
As a last chance since you are in France, have you called PayPal in France? The card may be declined from your bank for security reasons.

Here is an answer from Gemini, but understand when they mention the merchant account, which would be our club, we have been using PayPal internationally since we started membership fees, and it is an exceedingly rare situation when it doesn’t work. If there was something wrong with our PayPal settings, we would have these all the time and honestly, we do not.

There are several reasons why a credit or debit card might not work on a PayPal invoice. These issues can be related to the card itself, the PayPal account of either the sender or the recipient, or security measures.
Issues with the Card or Cardholder
 * **Declined by the bank or card issuer: This is the most common reason. To protect your privacy, your bank or card issuer doesn't tell PayPal why the payment was declined. It could be due to:
   * Insufficient funds or available credit.
   * Suspicious activity or a fraud flag: If the transaction is unusually large, in a foreign country, or outside of your normal spending habits, your bank might decline it as a security measure.
   * Outdated card details: The card's expiration date or the billing address associated with it might be incorrect.
   * Daily spending limits: Your card might have a daily limit that the invoice amount exceeds.
   * International payment restrictions: Some cards may not be enabled for international transactions.
 * Card is already linked to another PayPal account: A credit or debit card can only be linked to one PayPal account at a time. If the card is already associated with an account (even a closed one), it won't work on another.
 * Incorrect details entered: Simple typos in the card number, expiration date, or security code (CSC) can cause the payment to fail.
Issues with the Recipient's PayPal Account
 * PayPal account limitations: If the recipient's PayPal account has a limitation on it, they may be unable to receive payments.
 * Unconfirmed email or bank account: The recipient may not have completed the verification process for their PayPal account, such as confirming their email address or linking and confirming a bank account.
 * "Guest Checkout" is not enabled: The recipient's PayPal account settings might be configured to require all payments to come from another PayPal account, preventing people from paying with a card without logging in or creating an account.
 * Account type: In some cases, accepting credit card payments might be a feature only available to business accounts.
PayPal and Security-Related Issues
 * Security check required: PayPal may require a security check to verify the identity of the person making the payment.
 * Cookies or browser issues: Sometimes, clearing your browser's cookies and cache can resolve payment issues. PayPal's system may also be flagging your IP address or browser history.
 * Risk factors: PayPal's system evaluates various risk factors for each transaction, including the buyer's location, purchase history, and cookies. If any of these factors raise a red flag, the guest checkout option (paying with a card without a PayPal account) may not be available.
What to do if your card is declined:
 * Contact your bank or card issuer. This is the most important step. They can tell you exactly why the payment was declined and can often resolve the issue immediately.
 * Double-check all card information. Ensure the card number, expiration date, and security code are entered correctly.
 * Update your card details. If you're paying from your PayPal account, make sure the card's details and billing address are up to date.
 * Try a different card or payment method. If possible, use a different credit or debit card, or pay directly from a linked bank account.
 * Contact the invoice sender. The sender may need to adjust their account settings to allow for guest checkout payments.
 * Contact PayPal support. If you've exhausted all other options, PayPal's customer support can provide more specific guidance.

See previous reply; yes a long explanation from AI. Sorry.

Only on the rarest of occasions, and while I was Treasurer for many years, only TWICE did we do this, is accept a paper check from a USA member, on a USA bank. It was for elderly members who simply were befuddled with PayPal invoice and getting online. That "twice" is after processing through PayPal, over 1,000 transactions per year without issue.

Overseas members such as Ev350SL from France, we do NOT have any way of taking funds from you other than having you pay a PayPal invoice. Try as we may, there is yet to be a universal pay system that we could use. We keep looking but nobody has had any offerings yet. USA banks charge hefty fees for international wire transactions, so your SWIFT and IBAN transactions are not possible. You'd pay an outgoing international fee, we'd pay an incoming fee, and there'd be no money actually changing hands except bank fees.

The one other peculiar exception is Singapore. That country does not allow payments via PayPal to a non-profit organization. Those were dealt with by our Admin Peter vanEs in a special way, but still using PayPal.

Just for closure:

I corresponded with Eric (Ev350SL), and he wound up trying PayPal with a different credit card, which worked.  So all is taken care of.
