CAR NAMES
« on: June 12, 2024, 23:02:07 »
I just read the ACBROCK posting regarding rust where he notes his 1966 230sl is named 'Minny"   I thoughT I probably was one of the few who named their cars?.  Mine is named SADIE which my wife named as "the Other Woman"

So how about an informal, non-scientific survey listing of members who have named their cars and why?

Maybe it might even turn into a Pagoda Notes or Pagoda World story?

Looking forward to the names and why!

Mine is named the White Princess -  princess because its the other woman and I store her in a heated garage under a cover and don't take her out in the rain or snow or ice.  Living in the Pacific Northwest on the Wet Coast of Canada renders the car pretty much useless (at least according to my wife).

Let’s keep this going. My SL is named BCW, which stands for Booze, and Cheap Women. People as me why I call it this, my reply is because when I was restoring it, people would as me where is all my money going, and I replied, on booze and cheap women.  Little did they know it was money spent on a car restoration.

Yes mine is Minny because after spending way too much time and money on her I let my wife name her so hopefully she will get attached and stop asking when I am selling her.   I should have never let her know how much these cars are worth these days.

Ours is called SHADY :). She is black with tan, and I always feel like I am getting away with something when I drive her…

Just "Blue".  No idea when she started being called that, but - it's just "Blue".

I realize this isn't a new thread anymore, but thought I'd chime in. My mom inherited our Pagoda from her father, and now I have it. My grandmother (grandfather's first wife) was named Virginia. They divorced when my mom was a teen and he eventually remarried, to another Virginia. He used to call them "Gin 1" and "Gin 2". After he passed we decided that given that this car was his last great love, it could only be called "Gin 3". So Gin 3 she is.

Haven't given mine a name but occasionally call it "you SOB", especially when working under the dashboard!

I grew up with friends who would name cars, but I never got into that practice.  I've wanted to name my Pagoda, but it never seemed to tell me what it wanted to be called.  It's Arabian Gray, originally sold in Italy, and originally owned by Carlo Riva (Riva boat company).  So, these come to mind...
Gray Ghost
Grayson
Lawrence (as in "of Arabia")
Carlo
Bergamo (city of original sale)
Ariston (a model of Riva boat in the 60's)
Rodd

Did you search the forum before asking?

I call mine the Red Rocket after Sammy Hagar the red rocker. He wrote a song about not being able to drive 55 and neither could I.

I was in this car doing 130 MPH once. I will not say who was driving, what day it was, what road we were on, or even what country we were in.  It really is a Red Rocket.

I've never been one to name cars either.  But since I had my undercarriage dry iced and now I see all the weld patches, I have started calling it Frankie (as in Frankenstein)

We just call it "the Pagoda", then we also have:
- the blue Volvo
- the silver Volvo
- the Fiat
- the Alfa
- the Mustang
- the Bronco
- the Mercedes (this is our 250 GLK)
- the Porsche

So, not very original but it works. Our two homes we just call after the villages they are located in so 'De Luz' and 'Guyonvelle'. For a few years we also had 'the boat' and 'Key West', our boat slip in, you guessed it, Florida.
