Rubber Floor Mats
« on: February 12, 2024, 22:48:38 »
Were rubber floor mats ever a factory option?  These are the mats that came out of the car.  There was not Carpet in the footwells.  I a guessing the trunk is factory and if so the other 2 seem very similar.  I know the 2 at the top with x's that were on top of the others are obviously not factory (They say RubberMaid on the back HA)
Just curious if there is any reason to try and clean these up or if they were just after market and I should find new ones...
Thanks for any info...

I believe the 230 (and 250?) variant(s) came with rubber mats in the driver and passenger footwells.  Everything else was done in square weave carpets. I think black mats are actually still available from some vendors.

Here’s what one from Authentic.

230sl's, from what I understand,  only had rubber mats, though many put carpets in the wells in error.  They also had the hold down screws as shown

Yes, the rubber mats were all that was installed, and those look factory original.  Available colors are limited these days.

Ouch!  Why would Gahh sell them to me as part of the kit!  I am sure they were half the cost of my carpet kit.

I would agree that they should give you the option as people make all kinds of different choices.  But, a full interior would include the rubber floor mats because otherwise your feet would be on sheet metal.  On the 230SL, that's all the factory ever included were the rubber mats.

Save the trunk mat if original nail worth lots of money, unlettered MB is not starting to restock them, they are a scarce item.
