New Carpet Question.
« on: February 04, 2024, 04:48:24 »
I made a good push on installing the Heritage carpet kit today. The heat gun was the key to the 90 degree bends on the ends of the back wall section.

The parcel shelves have that sharp angle to deal with and I’m not certain the heat gun will get the job done.  For you that have conquered these pieces, do I use the heat gun, cut and trim along the seam, or is there another way.

Trying to post pictures but having issues.

Much appreciated!

My friend at the upholstery shop uses steam.  Using a heat gun could singe or melt the material.  Steam will soften the material without damaging it.

I have a pressure steam cleaner, might give it a try.

One question, I glue the back of the carpet and let it dry before warming it with the heat gun, which keeps the glue dry and tacky as required.  Wouldn’t the steam do the opposite?  I don’t think carpet would stay pliable enough to add glue after, then let it sit to get dry.

That may not help you but the carpet kit I bought from Gaah, came with these corners cut and resewn. That made the installation easy. You may have to do something similar.

Glue it then use steam while stretching it over.  That is the way I have seen him work the material.

Thanks Dirk and Brad. I’m going to figure out my path this afternoon.
